Was the draft from yesterday the same as bottles? I kinda thought it was a tiny tiny bit smoother than the bottle I had over the weekend, which could point towards the 2 barrel blend. The difference was so small though, that I may be wrong.

This exactly. If it is important to you, you will make time. Nothing pisses me off more than sitting at a pc spamming with hopes of getting a bottle. As a regular to any brewery you should have the right to go to your local brewery and pick up a bottle. I was one of the first 6 people to show and took the day off to grab bottles/have a pour. I didn't have too, but I did. Also, bottle releases like this promote the beer community. What are the chances if you order it online that you will do anything other than pick up your bottle and leave. I know personally I met 2 new buddies in this line that I will be trading with and opening a few bottles.

Why not do both? Why not have some available for pickup and then have some for sale via BPT or some other online means? For the people who can go there, they can line up as early as they want. For the people who can't go, they take their chances with an online sale.

No. You shouldn't. Unless you are paying some sort of membership that actually entitles you.

Cool, but what do you do with the line-cutter dilemma? This infuriates me. I lined up early one morning for a special release and missed out because the line mysteriously grew in length over the course of a few hours. Bastards

Maybe I should have worded it a bit differently. I'm not saying anything entitles you to anything in life. Even with a membership you aren't entitled to anything. So let's get entitlement out of this conversion. Like I said, this was something that was important to me, to be apart of. I can't tell you how many times I've been on BPT clicking away for the Modern Times brews comes to mind recently. I didn't get any. It's disappointing that I didn't get any, but I didn't even have a chance due to BPT things I can't control. How is that any more fair than someone that is willing to show up early and put the time in for something they want?
I'm not here to argue. Just here to provide a bit of feedback. I'm sure there are great way to do a release and it seems you can't do it one way without pissing off the other. So goes the story of every bottle release.

Something to be a part of? It's standing in line for several hours to purchase beer, not a social movement. Jesus christ...

I'm not sure man. I guess it would require someone from the brewery to stand out there and hand out tickets. Best buy does this with all it Black Friday door buster add stuff. These problems are not limited to just the beer industry.

BPT will give you the opportunity to socialize to your heart's content in a more pleasant space (inside the brewery) by allowing you to bypass the clusterfuck of multi-hour line-ups. Level up your F5 skills.

How does BPT take any of this away from locals... further more, should membership cards be made for those "local regulars" who are deemed worthy of every bottle? This mentality is silly, as beer grows, there's going to be a larger and larger group of "locals" that will be claiming that right to get it simply because they go to Bottle Logic often enough.

It's great that you can get the time off work to get there early, but again, encouraging this mentality of camping out will only make people more hardcore. Soon it wont be a simple two or three hour wait, but instead a 10 hour or over night wait that those truly dedicated to the cause will get. They won't have to, but then again, they will.

BPT is the way to go on these which gives equal treatment to those far away and those close by and tosses any notion of the local's entitlement out the window.

To further your point, if you want to make it "locals" only you can still use BPT. Make it a two day pick up window. Easy.

I'm not sure in what crazy world that waiting in line 3 hours for a beer in the middle of a weekday afternoon is a better choice than doing an online transaction.

They pretty much have to go with BPT for future releases ... they've hit the "Big Boy" point where old-school line 'em up bottle releases are just not feasible (no matter how much thought they put into it) ... cuz for sure, if their next release is line-up, you can be sure that you will not be able to stroll up 45 minutes prior to sales (like I did) and be well within the sell-out cutoff.

The one thing I hope they DO NOT ALLOW with their future BPT releases are PROXIES ... just my opinion, not a fan of BPT proxies.

I lost a "friend" yesterday because I completely agree with this statement and he obviously doesn't.

You could say it was over beer, but in these situations it's all about a person's character.

It seems they underestimated the turnout when it was originally planned. I didn't go to the Darkstar release, but I assume it was fairly mellow and bottles of that were available all over the place for a while. The anniversary beer didn't gather too much interest and is still on shelves everywhere. They may not have realized the hype the beer was getting and the crowds it would generate.

I'd imagine they will plan accordingly on their next limited release to minimize issues.
