Might be able to, but first you may need to help me out a bit by explaining what you consider "good" to be. "Good" is a relative thing not an absolute.

Thanks buddy. Even living in a beer wasteland of Kansas, a guy can try thousands of different brews.

Yes indeed! Happy birthday @cavedave. It's possible to have too many beers, but it's less true with birthdays. Just back from a walk through the woods with 4 dogs, on 4 leashes. It's 84 degrees and 90% humidity...like somewhere on the Vietnamese/Cambodian border. I'm still sweating after 20 minutes home. I need a morning beer, some music, and I'll be back shortly!

    1) That was just flat-out a great read!
    2) Congrats on both 6 years & 1000 reviews. ...on the same day!
    3) 1000 is a nice round number, nothing wrong with keeping it that way for a while :-)

Thanks Maria! We're drinking the same style today. I think I had more success with Bomb! than you did. I just read my review and it's comparable to Boulevard Aztec, but Boulevard has a lot of cinnamon (to me at least). I probably should have Boulevard rated higher than Bomb! but I don't??? Oh well. Cheers!

Good cold beer at odd places in the world is always a treat, regardless of what you might prefer while at home! Most beers are pretty well made.

Include me in the birthday salutations to @cavedave. Hope all had a good 4th, and while no pets were involved like @Hopportunistic, I was surprised at the amount of fireworks set off last night. We'll be heading out later to see if any of this part of Omaha's suburbs still exists.

Had this last night, and I agree with your assessment almost completely. I didn't recognize the cinnamon at the time, but I also felt I was missing something.

Ha! I've been off for a couple of days now, myself, and found myself asking my GF what day it was when I saw your post .

Now, with the C& Ps out of the way, G'day NBS faithful!

A nice little break from the heat today expected and so far, it's working out that way.

I bought a couple of bottles of the the new to me brew that I am focusing on today. It's another very good beer from the fine people at Odell. The look I was tempted to give a perfect 5 to because of the awesome head retention. It smelled slightly better than it tasted but like that has never happened before, eh? .

I hope everyone had a great 4th in the US and a great day in general for the rest of the world NBS followers. Enjoy the 5th but be careful with that 5th if you have one. :stuck_out_tongue:

    Cheers!

Good morning NBS, Happy birthday to @cavedave and to @JuicesFlowing congratulations.
The sun is shining here in WMass, we are getting blueberries in the back yard so some picking is in order
and soon it will be time to go for a hike.
Today is a Saison day Allagash Century Ale. A wonderful offering from Allagash.
    Cheers all

    Allagash Century Ale Brett Saison

    Allagash Brewing Company
    Saison / Farmhouse Ale / 8.00% ABV

    3.9/5 rDev -6% | rAvg: 4.15
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured from a bottle dated 2/2015 into an HFB goblet at 48 deg.
A - Beautifully clear, the color of fading Forsythia, and early dandelion gold. A slow gently rising group of bubbles supports a crepe thin cap of snow white. Lacing is a archipelago around the glass.
S - The grain bill sets the tone, Pilsner malt and Wheat aromas mated with hints of lemongrass from the yeast. Funky notes from the Brett add a nice edge, with some time the wet fresh cut straw moves to the top, leaving the spring notes and light malts completely blanketed.
T - An exercise in clean, this offering is almost monochromatic. Lemongrass, light straw, chalk, a hint of salinity. Throughout the experience there is very little deviation from the theme, Exceedingly well constructed and well executed, in a very tight range of flavors.
M - Dry throughout, light carbonation keeps the tongue tickled. A burly start, a nice overall feel, with the chalkiness, not to aggressive use of the Brett. The feel is quite similar to a southern French White wine.
O - Well constructed, quite enjoyable saison. Focused and very tight range of delicate flavors. A wonderful saison in all the right ways.
    Cheers

Good morning (again) NBS! Hit a nice bottle shop couple days ago and grabbed beer we can't get at home. Mostly IPAs for the GF and afternoon, outside drinking.

Also snagged the one coffee beer I saw in the beer store that I knew I wanted to try. I was forewarned before trying this to check the date, and this bottle definitely has age to it, so I tempered my expectations.

I did get some coffee scent initially, but once the beer settled, it was more generic charred to smokey roasted malt. The taste actually showcased the oak more than the coffee, which I'm willing to attribute to age, a bit. This beer definitely is a Yeti with astringent bitterness and deep roasted notes. I do get some coffee notes hiding late in the taste, but overall, bit disappointed (but not surprised) that this beer might be showing its age. It's not a bad beer, just feel I missed out on knowing whether it was a better beer (beggars and choosers...).

Hello NBS folks, and happy birthday Dave!

My new beer for the day is Prairie 'Merica. Pours a nice hazy gold into a teku with a foamy white head. This is another fabulous saison that pairs beautifully with a light healthy lunch. Everything you'd want in the nose and taste: a little funk, some lemon, and a slight pilsner-like bitterness on the finish.

Hey, I really like the Prairie saisons I've tried. Their stouts for me are way more uneven (though I really enjoyed Bible Belt and Coffee Noir; Bomb! And Vanilla Noir not so much) but these boys from OK sure do make some fine farmhouse ales.

Listening to some Erik Satie at very low, almost ambient (in the Eno sense) volume.

    Cheers!

    Good morning friends,
The woods were hot, steamy, and full of hungover people. Welcome to summer in the South! We go from near drought to no drought inside of 2 weeks. Honestly folks, weather is a touch different than just a few years back. Then, we would be in full bore drought. Now it's 98 degrees for days, cools off, rains, and the jungle goes crazy! This is unusual for sure. Truth is, we're lucky to have weather!
Today's beer, courtesy of@wesmantooth is Jackie O's Razz Wheat Raspberry Wheat Ale. This beer is perfect for a hot Summer morning, catching sweat and going down fast. Very rich wheat texture and a huge raspberry nose, easy to drink, but I'll be damned, one is enough. Don't get me wrong, the beer is excellent, I'll drink it again...it would be great with an omelet, sweet sausages, and fruit. At 5.5%, it packs a punch for morning awareness.
Next up from @WesMantooth is North High Brewing Cos Milk Stout. This is a beautiful beer through and through. Packed with great roasty flavors, smooth malty opulence, and a nice little piquancy from hops that is just plain great balance. At 5.3%, this beer is easy to drink, would be great with a variety of foods, or just simply by itself!
Thanks @WesMantooth for all of these beers that I'm still staring at, that I'll get to soon enough. Cheers! Jeez, I forgot to say goodbye to The Grateful Dead, and I've loved Dennis Hopper, through all of his crazy and beautifully rendered roles.

First off, Happy Birthday @cavedave I hope you were able to enjoy some amazing beer.

For NBS I was able to get a limited version of Schells Nobel Star Berliner Series. I have been sharing each one on NBS, so the tradition continues!

Starkeller Peach smells of fresh peach puree blended in a Berliner Weiss. Some lemon notes with a light musty funk from the fermented wheat and cypress tank aging process.

There is an excellent peach flavor on an awesome Berliner style beer. Notes of lemon acidity and a strong tartness. Not as much funk as the nose would indicate, but enough to make it interesting.

I would enjoy this every summer and would gladly pay the steep price for a bottle or two. I know these are only going to be brewed once, but maybe Schells would consider making it again.

Last night I had another awesome grapefruit Sasion that was a collab of Jolly Pumpkin and Anchorage Brewing.

It was funky with just a slight tartness about it. The grapefruit hits right away with lemon zest, floral hops and a wet straw/grass funk. Good amount of yeast, wheat, and some medium peppercorn spice to finish it off. A great beer if you are into funky Saision styles.

    New Kolsch Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
Thanks and Happy Birthday to @cavedave. Final concert of Fare Thee Well is tonight. WALSTIB even this little journey has been the last two weekends.
I'm continuing with NBS BIF#2 beers today, since @beertunes loaded me up but good. Nice Easy Day easy drinking to start before I continue with some yard work. Cuz' as the brewery copy states...
    Easy Day Kolsch
Let’s face it, sometimes you just want a light, crisp beer you can drink. You’ve just spent a few hours in the garden, or on the trails, or returned from a long day on the job. You just want to relax and enjoy the mechanical act of drinking and the biological wonder of adult-style hydration. Worthy Easy Day Kolsch is our answer to that need.
    True that.
Nice shot of my finger, but it isn't as attractive as @UtopiaJane hands holding a beer glass.
Anyway, this isn't a great kolsch but it is a fine afternoon ale (drank in the morning this time).

More from the BIF box thanks to @larryi86. Last week was about the hoppy beers, and this week for the darker side. I hope to be back with another later, but we are thinking of going out to watch the World Cup finals, so that might not work out.

Weyerbacher's Sunday Morning Stout has been a long time want of mine. The closest distribution to here is Georgia, and their allocation lasted all of about 2 days. Needless to say, this one was almost as hard to land as BCBCS or KBS. I was totally stoked to see a bottle in my box from Larry.

Not to belabor the details since this one has been reviewed lots of times here, I will say that this is a fantastic coffee stout, but missing those little touches that bring it to the level of BCBCS or KBS.

If I had ready access to this, I would buy it endlessly. Now it's time for Weyerbacher to start distribution in AL so can get ready access to this and Insanity!

    Good day, NBS

The Bruery's Cuivre ("Copper") Anniversary Ale
    [IMG]
Had my first pour while this sat out - you can tell it's humid, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

These are stupid-pricey bottles. I still buy it each year. I've had the last 5, so I missed the first two. Palate memory has them tasting pretty similar (I drink 'em fresh-ish), but in my mind, and in my reviews, Fruet was my favorite. Sucre my least.

Unsurprisingly, full of sugar, fruit, and booze - warming has brought these to full bloom...
The sugars are dark and syrupy, akin to molasses, brown sugar, and treacle; the fruits suggest dates, figs, maybe something like a dark berry or cherry buried deep beneath. And the bourbon just rolls booze throughout the whole affair...

    Cheers :sunglasses:
