I believe this concept will reduce trade values significantly to newly released "semi whales" or "whales" and they won't be so outrageous as to 6:1, besides the really rare bottles I listed. People are only getting so many bottles because other people are and its only going to get worse if we don't step in. Hecklers are like lobbyist of the ISO:FT, they're just doing it to benefit their future trades of the same bottles. Attempting to maintain a fictious value via heckling, is outrageous. I can understand 3:1, even 4:1, especially if a couple buddies want to go in on a bottle to trade for, but 6:1 - 12:1 should be for rare bottles only and I believe if we limit the comments, bottle hype will be reduced. If you don't think this site controls the secondary markets, you are OUT OF YOUR MIND. The only thing BeerAdvocate is missing is a link to where we can sell collector bottles. I dont know why Im using BX or BADV, when I could be using BA, like I use the ISO:FT. Those sites are piggy-backing off BA's rating and evaluations of all beers produced.

Sure, that's why I think an option to disable comments if you don't want them would be cool. Overall though, I don't think reasonable humans get swayed by hecklers. I don't know where the beer stock market ticker is, so I just value beer the way I think I should and am comfortable with.

Honestly all of this is the price of trading with strangers and not regular partners. If you have some friends out of your Geo, you can make some awesome trades and not get held at gunpoint.

I like the idea of disabling comments but I believe, we're past that point. I'm about leveling the playing field. Ive also made awesome friends through awesome trades on this site via long distance or IP, despite my local pals I already know. I operate many liquor stores!

So are you just trying to win trades and mad if someone foils your evil plot?

Please try to say something constructive man, if you want to joke, just private message me and we can work it out through a cool trade or something. Your alternate mindset with your statement, is whats messing up the trade forum. Knowledge is power.

NM, this won't end well and I'll get popped by the black helicopters.

But I will say this, if someone is against the statement below, I would consider their intentions dubious.

Well, thats actually a main point, a less rare beer and a more rare beer are inconclusive unless there is a history behind the beer. Most of the beers are all new, constantly coming out.

If a guy hits me up in MY ISO:FT thread about wanting Jai Alai and Other Half cans and thats one of the things I listed and I offer a box full of CCB goodies and Other Half cans + a nice bottle and then someone heckles my thread saying "You have to be stupid to take Jai Alai for FO" because he doesnt know the extent of the pm'ed trade and then the guy reads that heckle and then stops responding to me entirely because he listens to someone who is just being a dick, I find that BS. I was more than offering what he wanted, I went up and above and it didnt close because of some thread noise. That was my last heckle and that was the end of the line for me. I am a fair trader, thats why the rating system is in place. We should be able to rest on that enough to complete new trades. FO has no weight except for being newly released. It has like 40 reviews. You know what I mean? This heckling is everywhere with new bottles. A lot of people don't know what they're talking about and that's okay in the rest of the forum, not in the ISO:FT, where its about trading and meeting cool people and getting what you want if you can get it.

I believe comments should be disabled, that is a fair and just way to establish a better trading community and ultimately lower bottle weights and sniff out the good and bad. As much as I enjoy the good comments, supporting a great trader or beer or hash-tagging a friend for a trade someone was looking for, it isn't worth dickheads in a great beer community and like Todd said, the only way to do that would be to moderate more and over-dictate and thats no fun for anyone. If someone wants an arm and leg for a bottle and no one hits, the user will be forced to reevalute his offer by either different bottles or less of them or he can use the secondary markets for $$$.

If we eliminate the comments in FT/ISO, we might see an uptick in OPs claiming dubiously, "I saw this close".

Yep, or what we could do is flag people for heckling and not allow them to post comments to possibly appease the good side of commenting.

Just don't allow commenting in the ISO/FT and have the only replies allowed be by the op, this way they can put closed or whatever they need to.

Sometimes the comments are a little ridiculous but I also believe some new traders need a little tough love, or baptism by fire if you will. Every now and then you'll see a person post an ISO looking for a whale but be offering shelf beers. In these cases a little public shaming is good, its how you learn.

Personally, when I make a trade offer I want people to comment if I'm off

Right, threads arent allowed to be edited either, if its possible in the coding, maybe we could adjust that to better satisfy.

No because there is no scale of shaming. These same people feel entitled to post on anyones trade. If you feel a trade is outrageous, just PM them. Do your part.

There simply is no argument for having replies in the ISO forum that can't be addressed by using the Trading Talk & Help forum. If a new person is too lazy to use that then what does it say about him or her?

The one time recently I've posted in an ISO it was genuine advice about a beer from my state and it got deleted, along with several other posts that were legit. If those aren't allowed, then we should probably just go ahead and turn off all replies.

How about giving the person who created the thread an option to disable replies on a trade post? This probably would lead to less moderation.

It's not possible without hacking / extending the code, which is something we like to avoid. I'm not sure that it would lead to less moderation either.

having seen this happen before years ago, my opinion: the way it is now is best. turning off comments will upset more than it will help, and will inevitably lead to spurious reporting and rage filled PMs.

re: limiting posting privileges to completed trades, next time someone threadshits one of your trades, check their stats. chances are they are not newbies. just deal with it and move on. if you're getting too competitive about trades anyway, you should put that energy into something real (read: something that makes money, called a "job").

How about disabling comments on ISO:FT forums for a trial run (1 week?)? The best way to gauge impact & whether it's a suitable long term solution is to give it a temporary run imo.

Personally, I feel like crickets should speak for themselves and inbox explosions should indicate a very generous offer. If a newbie can't do a simple search, then it's on them if they get trade *****. The only thing I'd recommend is that the OP can say if and what the trade was completed with the trade system verification.

Do you let these said new traders know that they don't have to trade their in demand bottle for a shelf beer (jai) and they can just trade their locals to get some. I feel like thats almost ripping them off. I've traded for a bunch of the whales (1 kbbs, 4 bvdl, 5 assassin, 3 sr-71, 3 prop, 1 derivation, etc.) and semi whales to come out over the last year and If you just put up a fair and not shit offer you won't have negative comments or have to cry in a thread like this one. Cheers...
