I'll be passing through Iowa on I-80. Any noteworthy craft beer destinations that are very near to I-80? I won't have a lot of time, but would pop in for a pint if something is very close. TIA!
Shit, maybe the whole world. That place is rad. And when you are drunk enough you can accidentally stumble upon the High Life lounge when looking for the bathroom and lose your shit. My old man still talks about that experience, it's been like seven years lol.
As others have noted, El Bait Shop in Des Moines (about 5 miles off I-80) is a must stop craft beer destination. They have 165 beers on tap right now and a tap capacity of 180 beers. Food is fantastic as well. http://elbaitshop.com/beer-menu/
515 Brewing in Des Moines. Red's Alehouse in North Liberty under 10 miles north of I-80. Sanctuary in Iowa City (doesn't open until 4 pm). If I had some homebrew on tap, you could stop by, sadly I'm sitting on 3 empty kegs. Fong's pizza in downtown Des Moines or Ankeny; place has killer pizza and always good beer.
Depending on your timing Big Grove Brewery in Solon might be a good option ~ 15mins off I-80 north of Iowa City Great beer and food.
