Do you also drink the spirit/wine of your favorite barrel aged beer style?

I was curious how many people enjoy barrel aged beers, but do not consume the spirit/wine by itself. This was a topic I was discussing this with my brothers because one of them loves bourbon barrel beers just as much ad I do, but does not like whiskey/bourbon at all.

I can relate to this complementing flavor aspect because I have enjoyed some Pinot Noir barrel aged beers and I can't stand to drink most wine, especially red ones. I would tend to believe that the majority of us that really enjoy a certain type of barrel aged beer probably partake in the spirit that the barrel held too. Maybe not though.

Obviously, bourbon is the most common, and based on another previous thread, the most popular barrel choice. However, since someone was worried that I was trying to turn this into WhiskeyAdvocate, I will try to keep the poll more general. So whether you drink bourbon, rum, tequila, wine, gin, or brandy barrel beers, vote whether you consume the any of it alone, or only as a compliment to your beer.

This is the same principle as the non coffee drinkers (me) who love coffee beers. I can't find that poll, but I was in the extreme minority there. I think these results will be a little closer, but these industries are becoming more and more intertwined which is interesting.

I just picked up a bottle of red wine aged in Pappy barrels. Pretty excited to try that.

-I enjoy bourbon (four roses small batch is my go to and always on hand). On the rocks.
-I don't drink wine unless I'm out with/at my parents and they have something they deem "good."
-Can't say that I drink any brandy.
-Tequila? Yeah...I tend to throw those back when i'm trying to pretend I'm still in college.

I'll drink any liquor except scotch. I could never get into that one. But I don't think I've heard of any beers aged in scotch barrels to try it that way (although I'm guessing that it's been tried).

Maybe one drink of liquor( bourbon, rum, tequila etc.) for every 50 or so beers I will drink. Essentially not frequent like beer.

I got into Bourbon through my love for BA beers. Still not a whiskey advocate, but I definitely enjoy a good Bourbon or rye.

Bourbon, Gin, Scotch & Red Wines (i.e. Merlot, Cab. Sauv. & Shiraz) are my go to drinks outside of beer. As far as frequency I probably average 1 spirit/wine drink to every 4-5 beers I drink. So yes, I drink a lot of spirits/wine outside of drinking beer.

Don't do much bourbon straight but sometimes just want something not quite as thick and filling as beer and a bourbon and diet does the trick. Before getting into craft would always drink bourbon at home, beer out. Bourbon and out for the night don't always mix so well :slight_frown: Now it's mostly beer with the occasional bourbon.

BTW...craft distilleries are becoming the new craft breweries, just several years behind. A coworker is opening one this year and will be the 2nd or 3rd in the city. Enjoy talking to him about it, sounds like a lot of fun.

I regularly partake in bourbon, scotch, rum, gin, brandy, vodka, and tequila, more or less in that order of preference. I actually enjoy a good sipping tequila more than vodka, but I have far less experience with it thus far with only a handful of good tequilas and 2-3 mezcals under my belt.

I do like red wine, but for whatever reason (I think I may have a grape allergy, actually) any more than 8oz of it turns me into the littlest girl ready for a 15 hour nap so, sadly, I don't drink it often.

I said the second option though I find myself drinking spirit BA beers much more often than spirits. Wine on the other hand I drink regularly

I'm really not a Bourbon guy, or any whiskey. But I really love BBA and rye barrel aged BW's, Impy Stouts, and Old Ales. As for booze, I'm a tequila guy, but ironically I haven't found much in the way of tequila barrel aged beers tha I like.

I like my bourbon. I enjoy wine. I do not drink rum all that often, though I have had some tasty rum BA beers.
