I feel lucky to have been to a lot of great ones. That said, my favorite has got to be Avenue in New Orleans. Love the food, atmosphere, staff, and tap selection.

I'm not sure everyone is on the same page as to what a brewpub actually is. In my mind, a brewpub is a location that brews and serves its own beer, and also serves food.

Going by that definition, my favorites have been:

    Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats
    Voodoo
    Lost Nation
    Peekskill
    Fat Heads (Pittsburgh)

Earth Bread and Brewery always keep things new in rotation and have other local brews in tap and a good variety of cans/bottles. Their flatbread pizza always pairs well with beer!

    As far as brew pubs go I would say;
    1) 10 Barrel Brewing Bend, Or
    2) Bear Republic Healdsburg, Ca
    3) Block 15 Brewing Corvallis, Or
    4) 21st Amendment San Francisco, Ca
    5) Russian River Santa Rosa, Ca

    1. Stone, Escondido CA. There's several Stone places by now (I moved before Liberty Station one was built) but this is the original and the best. You can do the brewery tour as something to do and there's a wonderful beer garden with lush plants to walk around and enjoy some quiet with your beer. The food can be a bit hit or miss (it's not typical pub-grub) but it's fancy, locally farmed and priced to match. The only bad thing is the location. It's in a bit of a no-man's land in Escondido so you'd better bribe someone with a growler fill to bring you home. A buddy of mine and I tried doing public transit from my apartment near Balboa Park. Was an all day event with a bus, then the coaster up to oceanside, then the slow sprinter train, then the walk up that hill in the heat! Still an awesome place tho, but we ran out of time to make it to the Lost Abbey.

    2. Pizza Port, Solana Beach. There's quite a few Pizza Ports by now, but this is the original one. It's smaller, it's more laid back (much like SB in general) and you can sit outside on the porch with a beer and a slice and watch the trains go by. I tried the one in Carlsbad and it was a lot more kid friendly. There were a lot of arcade games and stuff, felt like a madhouse during the week, almost chuck-e-cheesesque. The one in Ocean Beach is solid, but I'd probably opt for OB Noodle House or Sessions Public if I were around there.

Three Floyd's hands down. You could take beer with you, buy swag, and eat delcious food. What else do you really want.

Three Floyds is my favorite. I've never had beer or food there that wasn't excellent-Dark Lord Day included.

Jolly Pumpkin's Brewpub in Ann Arbor, Michigan has awesome beers and great food.

Short's in Bellaire, MI has some decent food that pairs well with their beers.

Piece in Chicago is my favorite pizza on earth, and their beers have come around the past few years.

Breckenridge Brewery, CO. - Though there are only a few beers of theirs that I really like, the BBQ is legit!

That aside, do find myself at the Bull and Bush in Glendale (Denver) quite a bit these days...and even more so when they are tapping Legend of the Liquid Brain.

Funny to agree, but also disagree. LN and Pro Pig are amazing brewpubs. But The best BBQ I have tasted in Vt. is on your list for sure, but it is Lost Nation, not Pro Pig IMHO.

When you have these three you don't need any others.

I can't choose a favorite. No way. I can only say where I feel like being RIGHT NOW. I might be able to whittle THAT down to five.

    Steamworks (Durango),
Oskar Blues (original one in Lyons),
    Pizza Port (OB),
    Russian River (Santa Rosa),
    Cigar City (Tampa)

[edit] Just noticed that other than RR, these are very near beaches or mountains.

Surprised no one who has listed RR has mentioned Lagunitas. I pretty much always hit both of them up in the same day, and while I like RR a lot, I like Lagunitas way better (the place, not the beer itself). Both are great though, for the beer and food alone.

Others I like are Sante Adairius, the Miramar Ballast Point, Stone in Escondido, and, of course, Alpine, when it's not ridiculously crowded.
