I am interested to hear everyone's beer budget (if you have one). Do you buy bulk or just buy a 6'er here and there? How do you handle special releases? How much do you spend per month on beer?

In an effort to save money, my is as follows:

Everyday beer (i.e. Stone mixers) get from Costco. 24 pack runs about 27 bucks or less

Specialty beer/ new releases/ pricey beers (i.e. Duvel, BCBS, etc.) get from local shops

I always try to have a good selection of both. Something I am happy drinking and something for a day I want to treat myself. I do like to throw in cool bomber releases, but they are taken out of the beer budget just the same as any other beer. So, unless I really want the release, it usually may not be all that worth it (again depends on the beer).

I ultimately spend about 60$ on beer a month. Whats your breakdown/rational?

    I have no rationality...

rationality goes out the window..... when I walk into a store half the time...

I regret nothing... I buy what I want..

I don't think about how much I spend on beer, it would truly frighten me. As long as the bills are paid, the wife and kids are healthy and happy, we get a vacation every year and money gets saved..... life is good!

I do not measure my enjoyment in dollar amounts, therefore I do not pay attention to how much I spend.

Those terms are incongruous with one another.

Do you at least have a go-to stock in your fridge, or is every beer trip different?

I drink on average 2-3 new beers every day... regular seasonals and go to's show up on a regular basis, but I would rather try something new every day... go tos show up when I run out of new beers to drink, which is rare

I don't have a budget, don't drink beer everyday, and buy what I want. I just try to be smart about where I buy beer, as I have no grocery store/convience store/costco or sams club options in my lovely county of residence.

I will spend too much money on my favorite hobby regardless of what it is. At this point, I'm just glad it isn't sports cars or boats.

SIxty dollars a month for beer is pretty low. I spend more than that a month just for the snacks that go with the beer, especially cheese. When I first got into Belgian beers in the early 90's, I would drop $450 a month on beer and the snacks that go with them. Back then a corked Chimay went for 6.99. I don't want to add up what my tab is currently, but I do save a ton of cash by brewing my own versions of corked favorites.

I don't really have a beer budget but since my default attitude is 'cheap bastard' that usually keeps me reined in. I probably spend anywhere from 25-100 bucks a month. The pricier months are because I usually drop between 35-55 bucks when I brew a batch.

I buy smaller amounts of beer often just to minimize the chances that I have a bill in excess of a few hundred at one time. I probably spend about $200 a month, between a case or two of go-tos (fresh squeezed at $52 and DFH 60 @ $40) and then a weekly visit to the bottle shop to chase down a rarity or try a new seasonal. My beer cellar collection should probably be put on my homeowners...

I have tried several budgeting strategies...and mostly failed. When I was in college, I made myself stick to no more than $100 a month, which was carefully computed based on internship earnings and living expenses.

Now I try to stick to ~$200 a month, but with Side Project and Perennial only 3 miles from me....:astonished:

Very, very lucky to be able to pursue my hobby without a set budget, so far. I like to have a few solid beers in the fridge (my GF more so), but the "solid" is not static/not a staple/not the same beer each time. It's different as each brewing cycle turns, but it's something enjoyed previously. It's a wonderful time to be interested in good beer!

I have no other hobbies, that cost me much, I don't share finances with anyone, I have no debt, child support is over and I make a decent living....I buy whatever I want, whenever I want
