This was day 6 from @LehighAce06 didnt drink yesterday because I had a brutal migraine. This beer is really nice and glad I get to revisit it. I did enjoy the DDH Fort Point a bit more but this was still solid.

Some mead, like B Nektar, is carbonated. Schramm's and Kuhnhenn and probably the majority besides are typically still. While the method of production is more akin to brewing beer than winemaking, at the end of the day it is a honey wine, so it makes sense that it would be still. Schramm's is probably the best meadery out there, with Kuhnhenn in a very close second, and a couple in the Southwest not far behind. I highly recommend getting (more) into them, especially if you can find a huckleberry in Michigan to help you with the above mentioned meaderies.

Open the other one too soon, it'd be cool to see your thoughts on it fresh vs with age. If you're worried about then not having one to share, it's available around me often enough that I can certainly #pickitupforyou, and the Californians around here can probably get it even easier than that (and variants if you're lucky).

    Day #7 (Extra)
You open up the package and you see this...

you become very interested... very quickly...

It pours a still black swampy liquid. Aroma is too cool to get much beyond a dark sweetness.

You sip... HOLY FUZZ! Like a liquid Milk Duds!?! Wow, this is an extremely unique taste profile. All of your beers have been good to exceptional but this is really a different realm here dude. I can't get over the intense candy-caramel aftertaste. It is so intense it actually becomes part of the mouthfeel! (and in a good way as I normally hate caramel-malt flavors). Just enough Bourbon finish to make this feel like an exceptionally refined flavor profile and just enough complex alcohols in the finish to leave every sip wanting for more. Dude, I have always said this jokingly but if you need investment in your brewery I am serious about going in on this with you. Or AT LEAST I call "Lil' Beaver Bottle Club Membership #1." Thank You @bevoduz . I saw BVDL and thought "Bourbon Vanilla Dark Lord" but what I got, "Bourbon Vanilla Big Hairy Beaver", was better than I could possibly think that other beer could be. Kudos dude, you rocked this one.
    Cheers!

I have always found that bizarre.... nevertheless, the Oak Theory (and my daughter finally taking a nap) has really changed my evening for the better. The bottle did last me longer than an hour since my Thai food arrived and I took a break (no sense drinking something this good while my mouth was on fire).

Nevertheless I'm feeling mixed emotions between wanting this to last all night and wanting to open something else... whatever else I have probably won't measure up, but the latter is eventual and coming very soon now that my palette is cleared of dinner.

@Clarkson good luck buddy, I'm pulling for you! :stuck_out_tongue:

Im actually headed to SD next weekend, the same week that BA Speedway is released. Sooo if any of you are interested I can #pickitupforyou. They go on sale via BPT on the 13th (limit 4). And I can also get you regular speedway anytime ... oh and I can probably only pick up for like 2-3 of you (my car is pretty small :slight_frown:)

Okay Day 7 Beer 1 and Beer 2... Based on the fact they are both 12 oz by the looks I assume either different vintatges/barrels or barrel vs non barrel and have Amy pour them Side by Side

Nose on both are roasty. One is more boozy than the other so I'm guessing a stout one BA the other not. Well so far so good. Now I'm racking my brain to think of breweries that do this and breweries that @UcDru either has access to locally or with relative ease via trade. Sip of beer 1. Okay this has some booze on it Clearly BA nice roast with a solid barrel on it. Very drinkable and in no way unapproachable I really like it. Beer 2 tastes very similar but lacking the booze. Non-BA okay we're getting somewhere. This beer is super roasty and I like it a lot as well. I'm guessing Jackie O's because of location and some what familiarity. I have it narrowed down because of that to either Oil of Aphrodite or Dark Apparition. Guess is Dark Apparition/BA.

    REVEAL

Damn so close on both. Even thought of them but like they say horseshoes and hand grenades! I've been lucky enough to have sherry and rum OOA but don't think I've had either of these either way they're fantastic another great hit from Drew!

    BA Oil of Aphrodite: 4.33
    Oil of Aphrodite: 3.9

Some are, some aren't. In the BJCP there are different levels of carbonation. Still (No bubbles), petillent (scant bubbles no head) and Sparkling (anything else). Carbonation brings out some great characteristics in some of the more delicate meads (think light floral notes with orange blossom based meads or subtle mint notes with a tupelo honey mead). The still meads are often more reliant on their alcohol and flavor complexities to really entice the drinker. Everything in between is a mix of the two. I enjoy hydromels (low ABV meads) and single varietals (one type of honey from one specific source, think orange blossoms or sourwood) with carb and my more classic fruit and high ABV meads without carbonation. It is definitely a personal choice though. B. Nektar is a great place to start for mead appreciation.
Thanks dude, I think I will! Might take you up on that offer too!
If you ever get a chance to try his "Heart of Darkness" do it... Don't think about it, just do it.

Visiting there tomorrow! I would say that B Nektar is also in the upper echelon of Meaderies. Kuhnehenn was good but they're all over the place in my opinion
