With Mosaic hop. This beer is notorious for inconsistent batches (diacetyl) but I can say the 7/7 run is clean. Aroma/taste lighter on tropical side, more marmalade than expected. Little bit harsh and hot on the finish. Still solid.

Tart and refreshing - de Garde Azacca Hose. Not as good as the original Hose, but still a tasty brew.

Kid's pool filling up with water in the background while Dad fills up nearby with beer. This Suburban Beverage from Perennial is nice and sour and perfect for the heat.

What a glorious Sunday, when I could leisurely take care of some gardening while simultaneously do a Pilsner tasting. Here's hoping all of yours are going as well as mine.

    Here's the scene-setter-
    [IMG]
And after they were poured and randomized-
    [IMG]

They all look great, although #1 is a touch more golden in color, so let's skip comments on their appearances. On to the notes:
#1- Nose of rich, sweet, doughy malt and moderate spicy hops, leaning towards a hint of lime peel and freshly mown hay. Full palate, that seems to need more bitterness, and comes across as borderline flabby but stays in fair territory by a few inches. Clean, easy to drink, but would be better if it were a bit drier. Finishes with that doughy malt and a touch of straw.Maltiest of the three.

#2- Aggressively hoppy yet earthy nose featuring lots of straw and hay, with just enough bready malt underneath. Very fresh and vibrant tasting- wonderful! Lean and bitter yet very flavorful. Very long bitter and grassy finish.

#3- Mild nose that makes you search for individual components. Mostly bready malt with a touch of hay. Some sweet light caramel underneath. Well balanced on the palate with good bitterness and restrained sweetness. Very clean with a dry finish, but ultimately not too flavorful.

These are all legit, and I could easily enjoy each of them over the course of a day, but #2 is clearly a step above to my tastes. Time for the reveal-
    [IMG]

Jever it is, as I suspected.

These are great fun little tastings, and I would recommend that people should try something like this some time. With well-chosen beers , it really does drive home just how much variation there truly is within this style. All three of these have something going for them, whether it's the rich maltiness of the Straub or the balance of the Konig, and those elements really do stand out when put up against one another.

Well, my break is over- have a great rest of your Sunday BA!
