Hi NBSers I'm getting a bit of a large start here.

Just tried a new one from the Windy City
    Solemn Oath Pain Cave
    [IMG]
    Here's my review:
Cliff's Notes version: Very good, bitter and piney with a sweet malty backbone

The label is very heavy metal which is not my preferred genre, but I felt this beer deserved some metal. So I went with a classic DIO!!!!

    Cheers!!!

    Words of wisdom. @drtth .
I can still shoot the ball. My dribble is a little slower, okay a lot slower. I love the squeak of the sneakers, the clank of the backboard, and the (ocassional) swish of the net. It hurts when I step on the court. It hurts a lot more when I hobble off. But I'm still vertical when I hobble off. So I'll count this day as a victory.

Busy day today, finally getting around to posting here in NBS. Went to the stables with the wife while she worked her horse earlier this evening, took some beer along to help ward off boredom.

First off was Crooked Stave - St. Bretta (Autumn). This was perfect for a warm evening outside. Citrusy, tart, and a nice bit of funk on the finish, really hit the spot.

Then it was on to Crooked Stave - Surette (Both CS beers courtesy of @UTvols05 in the ongoing 12 Days of Summer BIF). This one also was perfect for a warm evening, a really funked up saison with plenty of spices to balance things out.

Finished off the evening with a Rising Tide - Maine Island Trail Ale that I received from @smanson56 in the NBS BIF #2. This is a nice session IPA, light with a decent amount of hops, went down easy and was a perfect night cap.

    Cheers all!

Nice words and thank you again. I have a family full of doctors- which I am not- but I am still a big wimp dealing with surgery. I just took my wife through serious neck/spine surgery and completely understand the '"why didn't I do it before?" truth. I'll know soon.

Damn, that sounds stunning!!! I absolutely adored Sure Bet and found Square Grouper to be a great one too. Thanks for putting this one on my radar.

It's a good one, I am really like what La Cumbre is doing from the two beers I've tried so far, still have their apricot saison to try.

The appearance is a clear extremely carbonated translucent yellow gold. Huge white foam head on pour that dissipates to a lasting thin long lasting foamy layer.
Smell of belgian yeast and pears.
Taste of pears, green apples and a slight bit of coriander and maybe a dash of lemon zest.
Mouthfeel is of high but dry carbonation. also the soft feel of the belgian yeast is quite noticeable. lt laves slight but not unpleasant aftertaste.
What a awesome belgian strong ale that took me way too long to get around to trying. My short bullet point review does not do this beer justice in its complexity.

Well I just popped a beauty from @walderek
Allagash Coolship red (aged in oak with raspberries. Bottle date Oct. 18, 2012
Pours a beautiful amber with hints of pink toward the edge of the glass when held up to the light. Frothy finger of loose foam quickly recedes and disappears within a minute. Smells of a dry white wine, like a chablis or maybe more in the direction of a Spanish Cidra. Taste begins litely sour with the chablis qualities then builds to a stronger raspberry tart meets sour. Finishes more raspberry tart.

Sat on this one for a while. I like it pretty well. Wish I had tried it fresh as well to compare.

Two new beers for me today -- as I post this I'm starting on my fifth beer from that late birthday mixed six-pack I got myself at the local beer/wine store a while back...

My second ever doppelbock is... well, the first ever doppelbock: Paulaner Salvator, imported from all the way over in Munich, Germany. Which also makes this my first actual German beer. I saw several of these on the shelf in the store and just had to try one, after how much I liked the first example of the style I'd ever had (Starr Hill's Snowblind, their winter seasonal beer.) And the best-by date is August of this year, so I figured I should get around to drinking this one pretty soon!

First thing I notice when pouring is that it actually sounds thicker or heavier than most beers. There's a definite glug-glug-glug sound as I'm pouring that's way more noticeable than the sound of pouring other beer. Also a very sweet and alcohol-y smell right away. Once poured, I'm a bit surprised by the color -- not quite as dark as I'd expected, though still pretty nice. It doesn't have that "shiny" look to it that a lot of the lighter/medium-colored beers have, but it does appear to be at least mostly clear, and I can see bubbles rising up when I hold the glass up toward a light. Not a great deal of foam on top, and it's shrunk away fairly quickly too, though there's a pretty solid ring around the edge that doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Smells very nice, rich and sweet but in a caramel-y almost fruity sort of way (no gross artificial-seeming sweetness here, that's for sure.)

Tastes... like really nice dark bread for the most part, followed by a sweetness and a bit of an alcohol-ish flavor and warmth on the end. The sweet/alcohol flavor fades a bit leaving a nice breadiness hanging around along with the warmth, which thoroughly fills my mouth after just one little sip. On the second sip the first taste is more in the sweet caramel-ish range, followed by the breadiness from before. Yeah, this is really good.

Halfway through the glass now. The foam on top has pretty much vanished entirely; there may be a very faint trace of the ring around the edge left, but that's about all. Still tasting really good, though. Leaning more toward the "sweet" side than the "really dark bread" side toward the end. There is a little something in there that I don't like quite as much as the rest, but it's really hard to pinpoint what it is or put it into words... maybe related to the bit of alcohol-ish taste that I get a little of on the end, maybe? Hard to say. But overall, this is really good. I've seen the occasional post saying that this beer isn't as good as it used to be... but this 2015 bottle I just had was still really, really good, so if that's the case this must have been a seriously amazing beer in the past.

and so I have jumped into the deep end... here it goes...

big day, worked hard on my day off to get la casa livable, lots of cleaning and vacuuming and carpet shampooing... my wife had to work overnight and after my 12 hour work day yesterday and a disagreement with her when I got home (yes she was the one who was right but that didn't make me feel any better, and yes we made up due in part to my diligent housework) I decided to dip into the secret stash which is only know to me and the WBAYDN feed as 'the crawlspace' (feel I should TM that term soon ) so here it goes...

started with this one (thx @whyteboy003)
excellent specimen of the style and best Canadian beer I've had (lost .5oz in the exchange rate)

...now the real beast and it's a doozy (thx @gatheredwaters)...

ouch, I really might need to eat before finishing this thing, take BCBS no the next whiskey level and there you go, the thing is it's smooth for basically being a liquor and that's scary, both receive very high marks and were my second and third official BA reviews, cheers BA's and especially my fellow LNBA's that put up with the most of my nonsensical ramblings and annoying musical afflictions

Believe you me I contemplated it. But I was barely able to keep my eyes open through my whole post, so I opted for door number two (which it turns out was my bedroom door). Next time (or maybe I'll just have to come bug you in Bellingham sometime)!!
