It looks like Troegs is gearing up to release an American Wile Ale version of their Mad Elf. A few weeks ago, they released the stripped-down version, Naked Elf. Now, they've been hinting at the wild version with numerous pictures of the cherries they'll be using. More info here.

I'm always excited about new Wild Ales/sours releases, but a hybrid of Mad Elf has me hesitant since that beer was just awful. I'll wait for the early BA reviewers to be the test subject and read their reviews/check the ratings before I decide to make the purchase.

On a similar note, Sour Monkey by Victory was pretty solid for a soured/wild version of their Golden Monkey. But I actually liked Golden Monkey so that was a no brainer.

I understand the criticisms levied towards Mad Elf -- it can be a bit much. However, I urge even people who dislike it to try the Naked Elf. I think Mad Elf is an okay beer, but I like Naked much more. And given Troegs's track record I have no reason to believe this won't be good.

Now if only they would bottle Impending Descent on a wider scale...

Looks interesting; I will definitely try it. I have not had a beer from Troegs that I would consider bad.

I just discovered Troegs this past weekend, specifically their Mad Elf and Bourbon Barrel Flying Mouflan. Wild Elf sounds awesome! Looks like I'll need more friends to visit PA soon.

Not a fan of Mad Elf, but this one is definitely worth a try.

I love Mad Elf and would love to try this! I had Naked Elf once and that was also great!

Yah, my girlfriend puked after drinking the mad elf and I thought it was putrid. I am not sure why people like it, who knows?

I like Mad Elf enough to have a few around the holidays, so I'm curious to try this. I'm surprised at the hate Mad Elf is getting here. I thought it was popular.

It's a decent beer; not one that I could have more than one of at a time, though. It can be a bit much to take.

I love Mad Elf that's one year plus old. Not a fan of it fresh.

That's how I feel about it as well, a little too sweet for me so typically a one and done.
