By the time you pay for the beers that require the trades and shipping cost it's cheaper to go to the festival

It's a rare beer tasting, not a ghost whale tasting. Good luck assembling all of those items (with virtually unlimited pours for about 1/2) for the same price.

I would never try to track down a lot of those beers because some simply don't appeal to me, but I see valid points from you both. The fact remains, however, that I can share a 750ml bottle I've traded for with 5 of my friends and they can bring a bottle as well and so on. I much prefer sharing beer with my friends in the comfort of our homes than all of us shelling of the money and dealing with the madness of festivals. Rare Beer was def more calm than a lot I have been to but make no mistake, once the GA doors open, it's a zoo and beers WILL run out.

FOR ME, having attended last year and experiencing it first hand, I can safely say that returning this year is not worth it.

I have the utmost respect for Pints for Prostates so please don't take this as a flame, I am just offering a counterpoint to help someone who has never attended make a decision that is best for them in terms of time and money.

I get it, and while I'm not thrilled with the list so far (too many easy-to-get locals, IMO), I think my brother coming from Florida will have a kick ass time. I've always enjoyed the event regardless...still better than going to the big show.

I think the best thing about the festival is how many oddball beers are on the list. Lots of items that someone is unlikely to encounter anywhere else. Locally some of these ARE available to us, but I don't necessarily think we're the main audience for this event. It's definitely an event that favors someone flying in, no doubt about that.
It's just my opinion, but I think there is probably a little blowback because many items aren't hot in the ISO world. After all, there's no bragging rights to checking in a beer nobody is fighting over or trying to trade their 5-minute old bottle of the Cut for

...and I am mostly joking and not trying to be a dick. I volunteer at the event so it's not like I have a stake in anything.
I'm also guilty of checking beers in to boot. Just poking a little fun at tickers and traders all the while being friends with a ton of both.
I do think the lack of name walez is probably the main complaint, though.

100% on just about ANYTHING in Denver being better than the madness and chaos of the convention center.

Well it is called the Rare Beer Tasting... "not found in large numbers and consequently of interest or value."

Not trying to be a dick either, for me it has more to do with cost vs reward and with Zwanze going on the week before and WTF! going on a few nights before I just can't justify the cost for what I will be getting, simple as that.

I know what you mean. That week is a wallet killer. I wonder if it were held another time, would it have the same appeal/non-appeal?
Is Dr. Bill still doing his thing? The big bottle shares seem to be a thing of the past. Sad to see Logan's thing dwindle down

I honestly believe the appeal would be a bit higher if it were held outside of GABF week from a financial standpoint, but maybe that's just me (and not saying I would change my mind). Honestly, I just enjoy bottle shares more than anything these days - more intimate/casual, less rushed, no drunken idiots, and no driving back from Denver....

Maybe I will just put together the Colorado Springs Rare Beer tasting with my friends....

I think the list is coming together very nicely and includes a lot of stuff I will never get to try but for this event. On top of that it's for a cause most of us can get behind so I'm glad to support it and be a part of it.

Having said that, I think Boulevard needs to be called out for what it's bringing. Neither of those beers is even close to rare. Love Child #5 still available on shelves here in Texas and 2 year aged BBQ, while a great beer, isn't anything special either. Even I have a bottle of that in my fridge. Come on Boulevard. Step up your game! This is for charity!

In previous years a few brewers phoned in their initial offerings but ended up busting out much better stuff for the event.

Heaven Hill BA MBCP is easy to trade for? Or gets distro?

Lol dude you quoted my post and I obviously never said that HH BA MBCP was easy to trade for or saw distro, in fact I don't think that had even been added to the list yet. No need to get so defensive about a beer event, if you are interested in going, no one is stopping you, form your own opinion and I hope you enjoy yourself, seriously.

I will be at Zwanze Day and What the Funk that week so I'm all set, it's not worth the money for me to go to Rare Beer as well. I am not overly impressed with the beer list (for the money) and I wasn't particularly thrilled with how it was run last year anyway.
