    #1000! Congratulations, BeerAdvocate!

Meanwhile, I turned a 4.5 hour work morning into a .... 25 minute work morning. Now that I have a very extended lunch, I figured I may as well reward myself while taking care of some paperwork at home.

The best part of waking up is Founders in your cup.

    Cheers, BAs!

You can't drink beer all day if you don't start in the morning. Cheers to WBAYDN 1000!

Happy WBAYDN? #1,000 everybody! I decided to crack something open that I thought would be special, so I hope this Blushing Monk doesn't suck. Cheers to 1,000, and here's to 1,000 more.

Beer #765: Founders 2015 Blushing Monk

$17.99 for a 750ml of this stuff. The bottle doesn't have a bottling date on it, but it does say 2015, and that's basically all I need anyway.

    Appearance:
Poured aggressively into the glass at first, but a fizzy head came up quickly. The head died within a few moments though. Blushing Monk has a ruby red copper-ish color to it with a slight haze and a little lacing. The head is a sort of bubblegum pink color. Talk about a sexy looking beer. (4/5)

Smell: Raspberries. I guess there's maybe a little bit of a Belgian quality to it, but I could be imagining that just because I know this is brewed with Belgian yeast... it's so faint that I probably wouldn't pick that up if I didn't know. There's also a bit of a malt aroma as well, but really, this just smells like fresh raspberries on top of raspberry ice cream with raspberry syrup and raspberry sprinkles on top. If you've smelled Rubaeus, you've basically smelled Blushing Monk -- Blushing Monk just has MORE raspberries and the tiniest bit of Belgian yeast. (4.5/5)

Taste/feel: Raspberries. I haven't had Rubaeus for two years now I think, but this tastes a lot like it. Right out of the fridge, this really has nothing to it other than raspberries. Once the beer warms up a little bit, the faint Belgian yeast aroma can be tasted. Blushing Monk is mostly just dominated with tart, sweet raspberries though, so expect nothing less. The feel is both good in bad. In smaller quantities, the low carbonation and almost syrupy thick texture would be great. As I'm trying to nurse a 750ml to myself (you're probably not), the beer starts to become a bit much. A little more carbonation would keep this beer from drinking so thick, and probably make it come off as less sweeter than it actually is. (4.25/5, 3.75/5)

This truthfully is an imperial version of Rubaeus, as both beers have a ton in common... so if you like or dislike one, the same can be said for the other. The most impressive part of this beer, I think, is how flawlessly Founders hid the alcohol. It's not detectable at all when fridge temperature, and only noticeable as it warms up because of a slight tongue warmth. My biggest problem with Blushing Monk is the lack of Belgian flavors. It makes sense that Founders wanted to let the raspberries shine by using accents, but it seems like they just accented an accent (does that make sense? Of course not). This is a beer well worth purchasing once, but it's so similar to Rubaeus at a higher price that I'm not sure I'd get it again, despite how good it is. As usual, Founders impresses, but at a pretty hefty price tag.

    (4/5)

    4.02/5 (-0.2% rDev)

Good morning BAs and happy day to WBAYDN on it's kilo anniversary! Thought I'd dig up something special from the cellar for the occasion:

Seem to be starting the day leaning (stage) left. Oh well, with an undated bottle of Baltic Thunder who could ask for more. This beer wasn't the beginning of my search for beer truth but it certainly was an eye-opener.

TGIF BA's and Happy WBAYDN 1K! Very cool indeed...........

Was digging around in my beer cellar and found a couple of older bottles of Weyerbacher Imp Pumpkin....being released today, so seems like a good fit for the day! Still tasting damn good!

Enjoy your day, drink well and often, and stay hydrated with the best fluids possible!!
