Recently received a warning for "threadshitting" on my response of, "Wow, what a great offer". Upon receipt of said warning, I reviewed the trading rules and forum rules with no mention of said offense. I am not saying that my comment added to the discussion but merely meant it to be a warning to the OP in case he did not know what he was getting into. What are your thoughts on this? I dont' feel as though I violated any rules/regulations and think I might be retiring my account soon to get away from this nonsense.

Defining threadshitting has been a topic of much discussion. I'd love to revisit it, because I do think that in many cases the reports over-reactionary and a waste of the mod's time.

I got reported for "threadshitting" for saying "This offer gets me excited" in regards to a FT:ISO thread involving Vanilla Bean Assassin and a huge list of white whales that I'll obviously never see in my lifetime.

I still don't understand why this is considered threadshitting.

They could just leave it there. From what I've seen, 90% of the threadshitting is well deserved.

The report button should have a maximum number of clicks a week. I'm sure a bunch of "advocates" think their moderators and report everything.

I got one the other day, the OPs post was basically "FT: Cigar City stuff ISO: IPAs I can't get." He listed no examples of what he had or what he wanted. Naturally I responded something like "I'll send you some Schlafly AIPA for a DB Huna." Yes it was a bit snarky but if the dude wouldn't list what he had/wanted it was worth a shot right?

I got a warning for warning people in a thread that the guy was running an auction. I based my belief on the private pm's we exchanged which to me were clear he was an auctioneer. Was I wrong?

Maybe. I don't think so, but even if I was I saw the post as a PSA.. didn't think I deserved a warning.

But, its over and done, so...

On this note, do moderators automatically send a warning for a reported post or do they review what happened first?
Or is a warning just generated automatically for a reported post?

Ive never reported a post so I know nothing about it.

no threadshitting is "well deserved". engage in it and you'll find yourself sitting in the corner with a dunce cap.

there's zero reason to limit the number of reports a user can make.

nothing is automatic about resolving reports. mods/staff review each one individually. far more are rejected than resolved.

keep it up...you'll learn the joy of the timeout.

    yes, you're wrong.

report suspected auctions, provide your evidence for reporting them (i.e., "it seems like an auction" doesn't cut it) and let us handle them. if you want to play at being a mod, do so at your own risk.

if you don't have something constructive to add to the iso:ft post, leave it alone.

The bold just seems "unprofessional" when the staff expects the utmost professionalism from us.
Not trying to be disrespectful, just trying to discuss reasonably.

The OP has a history of warnings. I have zero problem telling him exactly where he stands.

You're expected to act like mature adults, not professionals. If you can't uphold that standard, especially on a repeated basis, you can be treated as something less than a mature adult.

We have a report link for that. Replying with snark deserves a warning.

All of this contention seems to be the result of the newly added feature of being able to post on ISO:FTs. If you really want to communicate something to the OP of an ISO:FT thread, PM them and you won't have to worry about getting reported. On the inverse, if you throw up an ISO:FT thread and don't want people to shit on it, specify "PM with offers please" and don't ever look at the thread again. My .02

    Based on:
    and:
it seems like what will earn a warning is pretty clear, at least in these areas.

So, bottom line appears to be that comments in ISO:FT should be: 1) substantively helpful in a friendly+positive manner, and 2) not an attempt to play moderator.
