It may just be me, and I may be crazy, but I haven't had any of stone's IPA-ish offerings in a while because with the exception of the original IPA all of the hop profiles are the same and lack depth, they all taste like somebody created a syrup for what they think hops basically taste like and then poured it into the beer, IS THIS JUST ME? just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or has any thoughts

Is it you? Probably. Not that it is just you, but while I think Stone does not have perfect aim, they score more than they miss in my book.

Stone beers aren't for everyone, and I can see why someone wouldn't like them. However, they're one of my favorite breweries. If you're like me and like dry-as-dust, ridiculously bitter, hoppy IPAs, they're amazing.

Their base IPAs do get criticized for tasting similar. But they continually try new things, and they often succeed. I'm going to an event tomorrow which will have a firkin if Ruination brewed with Thirty Thirty coffee, and a rep told me its one of the best IPAs he's ever tasted. I'll gladly continue trying their new efforts, as well as some of their standards, like Enjoy By.

I suppose it was the green tea one and the ruination that put me off, don't get me wrong it is not that they are too hoppy, I don't mind that it's the flavor profile, Like I said I enjoy the classic stone IPA but the hop flavor in those two kind of put me off because while it had the bitterness of a classic stone beer the profile had no depth

Maybe my hopes were too high for the green tea and the ruination, it just seemed to me like those two kinda phoned it in on the hops, I don't think that the brewery is bad, I was just disappointed with those two, I think highly of stone and expect alot from a stone beer

I burn out on stuff cause I am in cali and I can kind of get only limited selection.

Stone, Launitas, FW, Bear Republic, beingthe mainstays/

I just keep rotating... I think something like Cali-belgique in the mix really provides a good curveball.

I burn most on lagunitas, but right now SUMMIN EXTRA is AWESOME.... and I think EQUINOX is a great beer to mix in.

overall, Racer 5 is the goto. but I drink too many too fast and then avoid them for a week or two.

FW is good I like Opal in the mix. but I haven't bought one in a couple months. they make toomuch wooky jack. Union Jack is great but it is usually $1 more and only at certain places.

    fuck Russian river.

I really like Trumer Pils, but I only buy it rarely. at the last minute, I remember after 2 it tastes like piss so I need something more substantial and grab a racer.

CHEERS FAN! just quit stone for a couple 3 weeks.

Enjoy By is one of the best DIPA's available right now, especially when you don't have to make a trek to the middle of Vermont or trade an arm and a leg to get it. Besides that they have a solid lineup and they're trying different ideas and putting out interesting stuff all the time.

I love it, but its not for everyone I guess.

no I mean I'll give it a second chance, I respect the hell out of stone which is why I thought I'd put this question out there, and I respect creativity and adventurousness, I'll give enjoy by a shot and see what I think if you think it's worth it, what's a bomber of that like 8$?

I've seen them anywhere from 6.49 at Costco to 10.99 at some stores. It's definitely worth the purchase and it has the best by right on the label, so you know you're getting it super fresh.

I really can't understand the complaints about Stone's beer. Sure, they put out some misses, and I most definitely pass on some of their one off bottles, but the quality combined with the availability of their beers makes them a solid no brainer for me. I mean, just off the top of my head, I've thoroughly enjoyed their new offerings such as Delicious, Ruination 2.0, and Go To (maybe not thoroughly - but close enough).

Oh, and super fresh Enjoy By is pretty good. And yeah, this Wootstout is drinking gloriously right now. Stone's OK in my book.

I've pretty much given up on their Stochasticity line. I do like Ruination 2.0 and seasonals like Enjoy By, RuinTen and Smoked Porter.

If you like strong hops, Enjoy By is one of the best IMO. When it comes out, I buy many bottles to "enjoy by" their date. The RuinTen is really good right now as well. They are really good at keeping their prices reasonable, if you are in an area that gets Stone regularly.
