What style do you prefer when sessioning. After 3 or 4 IPA's. they start to get oniony and lose the juicieness. With AAL's, they stay consistent. Had some Schlitz Tall Boys, and they tasted the same throughout. Yesterday, I drank a 64 ounce growler of Hop Hunter in about 5 hours, and the onion came through as I went through the beer. Is this what you guys experience? Had the same thing going on with another well known IPA a month ago. The more you drink, the lesser the citrus, the more the dank. Palate weakening?? Any thoughts?

AALs stay consistent because they have nothing to offer your palate. Drink good beer instead. If you're burning out on IPAs, try one of the many session ales around these days. I'm not a fan, but they're better than AALs. And remember Hop Hunter is not your typical beer, it used new brewing methods that may play a role in your reaction to the beer as you drank it.

I'd session neither, personally. One tastes like nothing, the other would burn out your palate after a few drinks.

I just got done playing some basketball, and this AAL really hits the spot. If I want to relax with a few tasty beers, maybe some good cheese, I''l go with an IPA.

As always good advice starts "Drink what you like" but more to your question...no I've never had that problem but I do switch up the IPA/DIPA's that I drink, I might do 2 different Bombers or 3-4 singles in a setting...I might also include different styles in the mix....1 IPA...2 Brown Ales...1 IPA....could make a difference for you. If I'm going to commit to a Growler Im going to make sure it's a style I've never had issues with but I guess that can happen. I enjoy Modelo while grilling and Molson is a nice cheap AL grab to have around, AAL do what they were brewed to do and that's to provide beer to the mass public...Grain Belt is a Great AAL away from the main stream and done the right way with some flavor.

    I cant session 8-9% IPA's or DIPA's.... but I also don't drink AAL...
I also don't prefer session IPA's as I would rather drink the full version of something.

I would say that the best thing in the middle is a solid pale ale or even a hoppy pilsner. The beers are usually well priced and fall in between those flavor categories (less flavor than an IPA but more than an AAL). Session until the cows come home. Enjoy!

I can't "session" 3-4 IPAs without it involving a session-nap, so I guess I have to prefer the other alternative.

I would rather session some German examples of Hefe-Weizen, Kolsch, Helles, or maybe a Czech Pils. Brown bottle Pilsner Urquell is great for sessioning.

I rarely drink the same thing all day - or a session.
If I plan to have several beers, I try to arrange it so that it goes lighter to heavier, while still remaining low-ish ABV -
APA - IPA - porter/stout and so forth. Either that, or if the option is there, sticking with british styles isn't a bad idea - bitters, / best bitter / mild - London Pride is always a good option for a session.

'bout the only thing I don't drink is IPA's and AAL's (unless they're free, I don't recall the last time I purchased an AAL, but charity golf events, yea I will drink them).

I'm an IPA guy, I'm maxed out at 2-3 16 oz cans leaning more towards 2. But it depends on the IPA , the more bitter it's usually 2. To be honest I stopped " sessioning" at 23. I just can't get around the the need to be able to drink 10 beers in a Day, IMO it's ridiculous.

I drank two quarts of water today and it tasted the same from beginning to end. Being able to drink a lot of something does not make it good. For enjoyment I'll take an IPA any day over an American Adjunct Lager.

I usually keep a few AAL's around for palate washing purposes between IPA's so the flavor from one doesn't linger into the next and cause the later beers to not get a fair shake

Use the AAL as a palate cleanser between the brews that you really like

If you are slamming IPA's and not driving anywhere, mix in a Pilsner/Stout/Porter in the middle to relieve your palate. A session IPA is not going to help palate fatigue.

Another vote for the Czech Pils style. Not an AAL, not an ale. A good compromise.

Could even try an English Style IPA, if IPAs are your thing. Typically a bit less hoppy, a bit less ABV. More sessionable than an American IPA, maybe a bit less of the "diet" feel that alot of session IPAs have.
