So what did you think of this? How does it compare to other pils?

Great, great NBS post as always, my friend! I really just wanted to add that 'Stand Up' is one of those albums that truly has a special place in my heart, so very cool to see you pulling a track from it to accompany your post today. :-)

A happy, steamy Sunday in central NY found me up at 6AM, in time to leisurely watch the Tour de France while doing NYT crosswords and checking in on Open Championship golf from time to time. As I work outdoors 6 days a week, I never feel guilty about lounging my ass off on Sundays, and I'm sure you wouldn't either.
As the sundial passed vertical, the air became palpably sauna-like, and it was time to imbibe.
New beer for me today is Stone's RuinTen triple IPA:
Despite my previous dislike for high-ABV ipas, I let myself get intrigued by the reviews at the late June release this year.
Pours a translucent copper with 1.5 inch fluffy white head. Nice looking beer.
Smell is dank/earthy hops, lemon, grainy/raw malts, and hot hooch.
Taste is very similar. Stinging graininess dominates. Old school hops seem to be there merely to dry out the malt onslaught. It's a nice sipper, as every small gulp provides a quick glance at all the aforementioned flavors while managing to finish a full-bodied dry with only a tad of alcohol perceived.
I knew to expect a harsh, uncompromising triple ale here, and thankfully the dry finish made it reasonably drinkable on a hot day, but I remain not a big fan of the 10%-plus ipa in general. I much prefer a full-bodied 7% ale that shows off 2 or 3 well-chosen hop aromas. Glad I've tried this, and will continue to avoid the style in the future.
Here's hoping all you NBSers have a wonderful day, and a pleasant tomorrow.

The ones that blew me thoroughly away were Fremont The Brother and the Sister. Can't recall which was better but it doesn't matter, both were killer.

Speaking of NM, my wife and daughter are in ABQ and I want them to bring back beer, just not a ton. I settled on ordering from TW (or will be) Elevated IPA and Chicken Killer. Those good choices for a very limited haul?

I'd nix the Chicken Killer. Good but not great. I'd suggest an Elevated 4-pack, a Project Dank bomber, and a Marble Reserve or Imperial Stout bottle (all of which are normally available at Total Wine). Dank had been MIA for weeks but finally got the bottled and tap treatment yesterday, so they might have to go to the brewery for that.

Other beers I might suggest if they want to cobble together a mix-a-sixer at TW:

Santa Fe Brewing Imperial Java Stout
    Santa Fe Brewing Black IPA
    La Cumbre Malpais Stout
La Cumbre Slice of Hefen (if you like Hefes)

If the ladies were willing to do a bit more running around, I'd make some other suggestions too. Haha. I know this isn't helping you narrow it down. Haha.

Oh and one major sleeper from an otherwise spotty brewery is Duel Brewing's Goya. Delicious beer. Possibly available at TW.

Wish I had one of those now, in fact, wish we got Straub here and I could try all four. OTOH my choice for fireman duty today, Brooklyn summer ale is doing pretty well. cheers!

Killer artwork. It's a shame that there are so many good breweries in Cincy and Columbus who's beer never makes it to the Portsmouth area.

You need a sister like Michael (@TongoRad) has. She mules him Straub beers a lot.

    Cheers!

P.S. Brooklyn Summer Ale is indeed a wonderful summertime beer!

    Greetings friends,
No silly and or stupid posts today, or beer. I'm on the mend. But I would very much like to take a moment to thank everyone around here for their intelligence, generosity, great good spirit....and humor. NBS is like a friendly small town! Cheers!

Really? So far far I've heard pretty much only good things about it. But I'm a huge fan of chai tea, so that helps too.

Hmm, no dumb questions eh? Here might be one! For NBS thread only, are home brews allowed? The particular one is from Mexico and is served in a number of local craft brew places in the Baja area. Just making sure before posting. Thanks!

Be well and get back to health soon.

I am still waiting for the payback for all the many years I spent as a ski bum riding the bumps. Some days I think my knees are gonna give out, but I am like you, I like putting shit off and toughing things through. Cheers!

I think if you give a thoughtful description of it, even if none of us ever will be able to get it we would be interested to hear about it. I say go for it. I'll leave it for others to chime in too.

From Vermont. Foley Brothers Spruce Session IPA. 4.7% ABV. This is brand new for 2015 and it was first bottled on June 16, 2015, which just happened to be my birthday. Pale yellow, heady pour. Good clarity. I pick up plenty of spruce but that ester almost turns into a tropical, berry-like fruitiness. This definitely smells refreshing. The body is light. The taste is also alive with blue spruce and fruity notes with a mild bitterness. But it is the fruit character that lingers at the end.

I was drinking session IPA's today because I walked and/or hiked about 5 miles this morning. It was 85 degrees, sunny, and slightly humid here in New Hampshire so Session IPA's were about the most I could handle. Earlier I drank the Foley Brothers Session IPA, which isn't that new. It has been around for over a year. But I much preferred this spruce IPA.

    Sticking to the west coast

    Alesmith IPA

    4.24/5 rDev -1.4%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Wonderful looker, giant foam rides hazy golden goodness.

Nose shouts tropical, melon, sugar and malty all at once without any one of them overpowering the other.

Taste follows along with the nose but the tastes that do gain an edge are melon and sugar.

Nice body, not cloying sweetness but some bitter hanging around.

Get a chance to buy this, do so!

I am a tea guy. This particular beer took me 3 hours to drink, though. I liked the taste, I just found it really hard to get through. I gave it a high rating, but i would probably change that if I had it again. I want to re-visit it just to see how I do.

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @cavedave for getting us underway,

It's currently 85 degrees in the Republik of Spokanistan, and the forecast calls for about 10 more degrees. For about a week, we'd been having some lower, more typical temperatures, but that seems to be coming to an end.

Last week I missed NBS (and the cooler temps around here), driving down to the parental palace to help move a piano from my aunt's soon-to-be-former house to my folks'. Ironically, my folks originally bought the piano in Tacoma when I was two, swapped it out with my Grandma's grand piano (actually my Dad's -she'd been keeping it until my Dad had a house big enough for it) when I was six, then my aunt grabbed it when my grandmother had to go into a nursing home, and now that my aunt has taken an apartment in a retirement home, it's come full circle back to my Dad. While fairly heavy (an upright Baldwin "spinette"), it was not as arduous as I feared, with my Dad having recruited a couple friends in addition to the two of us, and he had organized well, which is half the work done in advance.

No new beer last Sunday (though my Dad and I each had a can of beer from Orlison on the front porch afterwards), but on Tuesday I did crack open a bottle from the box @LehighAce06 sent me for NBS BIF # 2: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/1444/?ba=woemad
I really found it a lovely drinking beer. As a winter seasonal that was dated nearly a year ago, I think some rough edges had been planed off by Father Time, as some reviews from when it was just released sound like it's a little more harsh and bitter then. As it was, I'd put it against Old Raspy and Ten Fidy with no apologies. Great stuff.

Not sure what I'll do today. From yesterday afternoon until very late in the evening I was at a BBQ/swim party with my friends from "Dinner Club" (think fight club but with hedonistic eaters). I made up a batch of pulled pork and was able to eat teriyaki chicken, Thai Basil-wrapped meatballs (lots of double entendres ensued about how much we liked the balls of the person who brought those), lots of fruit salad, chips, etc, and mango creampuffs for dessert, all washed down with Bourbon lemonade and my friend Mike's homebrewed IPA, made with Comet hops, with a little bit of Ahtanum hops thrown in to finish. It was crisp, dry and delicious. I rolled my massively-filled form home and was rather late in getting up this morning, and am still finishing off the dregs of the coffee.

A one-off lager from my hometown? One (or both) of a matched pair of IPAs from the other side of the state? More beer from @LehighAce06? Time will tell.
