It seems like a "small camp" within the realms of a Fundamental Observation thread.

Then again, it's easy to see why with all of the hyped posts about being able to sell their FO for $150. If this thread continues another 17 pages, they may also determine that FO cures cancer.

I wouldn't so much say that folks with FO trading for Nilla are saying that nilla is better. It's more along the lines that they finally have trade fodder that can land them a nilla without giving up the farm and want to take this taste off/test for themselves with the other couple of bottles of FO they still have left.

"nilla" sounds like the street drug term for Vanilla Rye

Trading FO for VR is a great way to get a side by side set up.

I really need to do a side by side taste comparison of VR and FO. I couldn't really decipher myself which one I liked more from my individual experience of both. But then again I haven't been able to taste FO from the bottle which people claim is better whereas for me, I only had the pleasure of tasting VR from a bottle.

I agree with iggy. Both vanilla rye and FO taste different. Both are barrel aged stouts with vanilla but...

FO is less sweet and has a more pronounced bourbon caramel booze presence... where Vanilla Rye has a sweeter base and spice from the rye whiskey barrel.

Both different flavor profile combos ultimately combine and interact differently with the vanilla in the beer.

I think vanilla rye reminds me of Smores.

Where as FO reminds me of Smores made with chocolate marshmallows and caramel drizzle. Someone at a share said it also reminded them of "flan" which I can totally relate to as well.

I've only had it on tap, but I was disappointed to find very little rye flavor in the VR. That was my main complaint with it. I wonder how different that would be in the bottle. With FO, I had no such rye expectations, and no letdown at all. I have to say, I preferred the bottle to the tap though. I've actually been experiencing that more often lately.

How many FO's could I get for my BT glencairn glass, 2 or 3?

Was FO aged in any rye barrels? Someone on IG is swearing they are getting a ton of rye in this beer...

The Four Roses might be a bit more rye forward, but the Bernheim (wheat), Buffalo Trace (wheat forward), Heaven Hill aren't. Perhaps they only know rye from drinking beers with rye in them?

Or perhaps this person is just humblebragging. I'm leaning towards a humblebrag.

Update: FO is fantastic. It really is. The vanilla bomb just burst out of the bottle when we opened it. #Noseboner There was plenty of vanilla in the taste but it balanced really well with a great wave of barrels. I can see why people say it's better then Vanilla Rye, and why others say they prefer VR. Comes down to preference.

I'm just glad I have another bottle to dome solo. Hope my guy enjoys the Pallets as much. Oddly enough the barrel blend reminded me of the blended barrels from Pallet 2 *had both tonight. Cheers! (Untappd I gave it 4.75)

Except that going from 100 to 98 isn't what most people call INCREASED.
