So I was planning on trying Stone Imperial Russian Stout Chai-Spiced edition with an old friend, but she ended up in the hospital with heat stroke. She's fine, but didn't want to drink for obvious reasons, so I went with Mikkeller's George imperial stout instead. Really good stuff! Wasn't very carbonated which was a little odd, but just made the beer taste more like a sludgy alcoholic milkshake of chocolate awesomeness. It was also unfiltered, so there was about a good inch of yeast at the bottom of the bottle which I drank. I like the way it tasted. Shoot me.

    Happy New American IPA Sunday!

So today was a scorcher! I guess it wasn't a bad time to drive to VA for work... left late though to take care of things at home. No biggie, but that meant I was stuck with NBS offerings from the hotel bar shortly before they closed. That left me with Goose IPA. A fairly good IPA, but fairly unremarkable. It is amazing how it is so solidly average for an IPA. Hey, at this point I'd take anything to wind down from a long drive.

    Cheers!

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend again. Thanks to @cavedave for getting us started off today. Not much going on this weekend. I kicked my Helles keg last night after being on tap for roughly a year. Still tasted excellent. I just cleaned out the keg with some oxiclean today, and I added potassium Metabisulfite and sorbate to my session mead after that. I will keg that one this week after a couple days to make sure the stabilizing is ok, but that still means I need to brew 2 more beers to finally get my kegerator filled up. I was thinking of an amber with English ale yeast and some fun american/aussie hops for one(all hop bursted) and then probably a kolsch or something sessionable.

    Here are today's new beers:

I purchased the whole Longshot pack today, I figured it was worth the investment even though I only usually do singles for reviews(2 of each for the pack). This was a good porter overall. Nice appearance and dense lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, light vanilla, and light herbal hops. Light herbal/roasted bitter finish; with good bitter/sweet balance of roast/dark malt and hop flavors. A bit above medium bodied with a nice creamy mouthfeel. All around good malt complexity and flavor robustness. Pretty straightforward stuff. Aromas were slightly muted but pleasant. The label said it was supposed to have citrus hops but I didn't see any of that, mostly just herbal UK stuff; and pretty lowly hopped for American porter, vs others I've had in the style(but sufficiently balanced). It was nicely enjoyable all around overall. I will gladly drink the other one with no problem. 3.68

Great DIPA! Nice appearance and dense sticky lacing, light hop particle haze. Aromas and flavors of big pineapple, peach, mango, melon, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, and light pine; with moderate malt sweetness of honey, light caramel, bread and some floral/grassy hop earthiness. Nice balancing pine/grassy bitterness on the finish. Great juicy hop flavors with prominent, but not overwhelming, malt support. Very smooth finish with zero warming. Medium-full body. Nice moderate creamy and hop sticky balanced mouthfeel. Really impressive east coast style DIPA. 4.1

A damn good fruit sour. Aromas and flavors of lightly tart lemon, peach, apricot, green apple, pear, hay, straw, grass, honey, wheat, cracker, oak, light white wine vinegar/funk, and light vanilla. Lightly tart finish; with balanced fruit and malt flavors with pleasant but balancing acidity against the pale malt profile. Very smooth and all around good complexity. Fairly crisp and very drinkable for the ABV. Overall no real complaints, this has well rounded complexity and is much more accessible as a sour for newbies as it is far less acidic that I expected it to be. I'd definitely still have it again. 4

hey i'm full of New BS everyday so it's fitting I finally showed up here lol

first one tonight (thx @5EKF) is one of the best Imperial stouts I've had, 4.5 across the board, reminds me of a microscopically raspier FIS which is the best Imperial non barrel aged I've ever had
    [IMG]

second I picked up a couple at a specialty wine store in Bozeman, MT called Vino (all wine and two beer coolers filled with the cream of the crop accessible there) which was one of my now 6 stops on every trip there seeing as they have a new Craft Beer Cellar as well, didn't mention partially aged in bourbon barrels or the coffee added on the label and I didn't have my phone to look it up or I would have got a few more , it's just a half step or so below Big Bad Baptist and extremely good bouncing between 4.5 and 4.75 in almost all categories

cheers NBSers, keep telling those tales of exceptional beveRAGE!

Was an extremely hot and humid day here in Cleveland today. High of about 90 with humidity at about 70%. Too much for me to want to spend any time outside working in my garden unfortunately. Instead I stayed in and was actually fairly productive getting some housework done. then the wife and I went to meet my dad for dinner at this Italian place that has kick ass happy hour specials even on weekends. Ending my night and weekend with Anderson Valley's flagship beer, and it is a fine one indeed! Cheers fellow BA's and have a great week all! http://www.beeradvocate.com/user/beers/?ba=neenerzig

I just realized that I had a new beer today!!!! Here it is: Dogfish Head American Beauty

Aroma is a bit of orange peel, bread, granola, and grains/oats.
Taste is mostly malts, granola/grains/oats, with a bit of citrus rind
Overall: I am happy I finally got around to this one. I certainly liked it but I don't know if I will get another bottle.

Big thanks to @5EKF for today's NBS.

    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25

Black as night stout with a creamy tan one finger head. Tasted of dark chocolate and coffee with just a touch of liquorice lingers in the aftertaste. It has a nice silky creamy mouthfeel that is just a tad thin but is still good for a 6% abv.

Overall a fabulous low abv stout. this is really about as good as it gets for roasty stouts that are slightly sessionable abv wise.

Been reading. Good NBS this week. I'm on the road, and even though I'm enjoying plenty of new beers, it's been hard to post. Cheers All.
