I find 3 Floyds to be way overrated. Yes they make a damn good pale ale, and yes they have a fun drunkard event to attend, but the majority of their beers are good not great. Other breweries that fall into that same line for me are: Pipeworks (about 60% of what they make is great, the rest is like "what the hell"), Half Acre, and Firestone Walker.

    I agree with "chrisjws"

There's tons of beers out there that taste just as good as Heady, Pliny, TG, and so on. People just get so caught up in the hype that they refuse to admit something is better. A blind taste test always proves this theory to be right. I am from Ohio and I'll tell you right now that Head Hunter, Hop JuJu, and White Rajah are on the same level as any of these other highly touted beers. People are just blinded by the hype. So I guess what I'm saying is, all the famous, traded for, desperately need these beers are the ones that are "overrated" in a way.

I'm just speaking from my own experience in the industry as a brewer, we just make the best beer we can and take as much pride in a well executed Czech Pils as we do a rum barrel aged stout or what not. I'm not saying you're wrong, but if you have examples maybe you can shed some light on practices I haven't seen yet in the industry.

i wonder if one's a brewery that makes lots of dark beers with lots of artificial flavorings?

I don't particularly care for Green Flash myself , probably because it's always old shit. I've had it on tap and that kinda sucked too, so maybe it's more than just age. A never buy.

For me, the issue I have with Three Floyds (and to a degree Pipeworks) is that they basically have two beers..imperial IPA and an imperial stout, and by and large when either venture out from those two styles the end product usually sucks. That being said, a .600 batting average is still pretty solid.

Amen on that brother. By no means are they even close to bad, or good for that, they are great brewers, just overrated.

Wow dude! So profound  You really shut the whole thread down.

On a serious note. I would say GF is overrated but I really don't think that many people love them..

I'm looking for someone to tell me I am wrong here but I can't stand that everything that Side Project drops is an instawhale. Do they make good beer? Of course. I just would like to see a little more production. I understand its a small production, but wow the hype among each release

I always hate to do the whole overrated/underrated thing because as many people have said it's all subjective and there is no right answer. But, since we are here, I'm voting Dogfish head. Other than the 60 an 90 minutes, which are good IPA's, but not among my favorites, I've never had anything from them I like. Again just one man's opinion.

Depends. I like their pale ales and IPA's. Most of their new stuff, however, is pretty damn mediocre, and their bombers are way overpriced.

Founders makes a lot of great beers. It's hard to call a brewery over rated when some of their best beers are not only great but require no work to get.

Ok, I'll say it.... Fresh Dreadnaught is still by far and away their best hoppy offering.

I'd also not only put White Rajah against Zombie Dust, but any other IPA on the market.

Dogfish Head is massively overrated. I don't even enjoy 60 or 90 minute all that much - they're simply not especially interesting brews. I like malt-forward IPAs so it's not that; nothing I've had from them has impressed me.
