Once you press that trade button, its like a virtual handshake of a gentlemans agreement. You are revealing to everyone here that you are incapable of man-ing up and following through on your end, if you had a valid reason of which we all could find sympathy for,( not just you wanting to go to a share so you can try even more beer,) we all might have had some pathos

I would have allowed you to back out of the trade. But that's me. This wasn't my trade & it wasn't my decision.

I would have left neutral fb at worst. (If possible I would have just cancelled the trade). Again, that's just me. It's not my fb to leave.

Your trader did nothing wrong when he
    1) refused to allow you to cancel a trade you'd committed to.
    2) left you negative fb after you refused to honor your commitment.

Your request to cancel the trade was reasonable. His refusal to do so was also reasonable. Your refusal to follow through at that point was downright sketchy. Why ask if you weren't going to honor but one answer? That, tbh, is a very, very sore point with me. Indeed, thinking on it, I might have left you negative fb if I'd declined a request to cancel the trade & you still refused to follow through. I hate, really, really HATE *requests* that are in fact demands. IF it's a demand, rather than an actual request, show the integrity to phrase it as such.

I might consider trading with someone who has negative fb. I really don't care if people back out of trades. Either way I'm drinking good beer, but the OPs whiiining, kvetching & carrying on are just more than I can tolerate. Bleh.

Are you a bad trader overall probably not...Are you guilty of being a bad trader in this instance? From reading how this played out I would say most certainly so. I don't see a large issue with negative feedback but I would have probably leaned towards neutral. More important than the bad/neutral/positive is the content of the feedback. I do find the content of the feedback left is accurate and information I would want if trading with you. There have been many instances where I have shipped within 24 hours of receiving the accepted trade request and in this case what would have happened if your partner shipped before you decided to back out? Just my 2 cents.

OP - Just read what the lady had to say here.

    Then read it again.

If you still can't see why you're a bad trader, then you never will.

I think it's fine you stated your case, but this thread is going nowhere. Personal feedback is personal, so whether or not you deserved negative feedback is left to the person who leaves that feedback.

If the moderators disagree, they could adjust it for you but I don't think that's going to be the case here.

Bad trader? Not necessarily. Good Trader? No.
I wouldn't trade with you though. You said you cancelled within a day or so of agreeing on the trade.
If it was my trade, the beer would probably already be packaged and with a shipper label on it in that amount of time, and I would certainly be annoyed at that point to find out you were backing out.

Negative feedback..maybe excessive, but certainly neutral with a negative comment about your level of commitment would be appropriate.

IMO, I think trade experiences should be graded in terms of exceeded expectation feedback, good feedback or negative feedback. I never understood what defines a neutral feedback? in my opinion you either had a good experience or you had a bad experience.

Bad Trader? Probably not. Unreliable? Def yes. To me a bad trader is someone who misleads you and scams people out of beer. Would I trade with you? I'd take the risk on smaller things, then as trusts builds so would the bottles.

I would never trade with you ... You should have sucked it up and shipped the beers you agreed to and chalked it up to a lesson learned. I would bomb the guys porch if I were you and hope he reverses the feedback. Clear your name the best you can.

One thing to keep in mind when you delve into the world of beer trading here on BA, the bar is set very high in terms of how you conduct yourself. Be above reproach, you won't have any issues.....but......

Bust the deal, face the wheel.........Thunderdome.

Bomb his porch? Clear my name the best that I can? Good lord, it's not like I took his beer and then waited 6 months to ship. He clearly had a negative experience during this ordeal, so in what way would "bombing his porch" to bribe him to reverse the feedback help?

I do want to say that I am surprised at some of the comments directed towards me (questioning my manhood and my understanding of values) because I backed out of two beer trades in the 32 months I've been trading on BeerAdvocate, one of which was completely understood and ok with by the other partner. I was reading over the actual Bad Trader threads and I saw less insulting comments directed to people who legitimately screwed other people out of beer than I have to me. I've had 30 positive trades since the feedback system was implemented, more from before then, and this is the first incident of negative feedback I've ever received.

Also, after apologizing in BM for the aggravation I caused the OP, he still found the time to badger me and insult me with cuss words. which doesn't seem too nice.

Ok, going to lock this one down, it seems to have run its course. Judge for yourself.
