Gulden Draak is without question my absolute favorite beer on the planet, I have never had a beer as good and probably never will. That being said one thing about the beer irks me to no end, I know this is nitpicking (then again what ba thread isnt? haha) but it annoys me to no end that they insist on calling it a dark tripel, I am sure by recipe standards this is probably in a sense true but it is so isolated in this category that i wish they would just give it up and call it a strong dark ale or just a belgian ale, thoughts?

probably in my top 5-10 beers, i don't care what they call it as long as they keep making it and distributing it near me. they can go full jolly pumpkin and randomly pick a beer style that may have no relation whatsoever to the beer in the bottle for all i care. also if you haven't tried gulden draak 9000, lower your expectations by about 500% before doing so, what a massive letdown that beer was after the standard draak.

Belgian Strong Dark Ale could be applied to many "quads" too. I wouldn't get too caught up in the classifications.

I'm inclined to be honoring the brewery's wishes. They know more about how it is brewed than I, so I'll go along with them and let them call it what they choose.

I'm not sure where I stand on what exactly the style is, but I am happy to see some other folks get as excited about Gulden Draak as I do :grinning:

the dark tripel thing just gets on my nerves, they'd practically have to shit in the beer to keep me from buying it but still

Does it really bother you that much? Clearly you have a pretty good life, if this is one of the things that annoys you the most

I would write them a strongly worded letter... or maybe take it up with the BBB.

All jokes aside, I see where you are coming from.

haha thank you, like i said, not truly all that important but somehow still very irksome, perhaps because the distinction is obscure, pointless and unnecessary

especially since a dark tripel is not even a fucking thing

I find that a lot of nomenclature for Belgian beers is useless and arbitrary. I mostly ignore style labels for Belgians, because the variation within any one labeled style is so much greater than the differences from one style to the next.
