There's several other excellent beers not listed. Especially seasonal offerings. Live a Rich Life, Apocolypse Cow and Moloko are fantastic as well.

But it really comes down to people's definition of "overrated." You could probably find ways to call many of the best breweries in the world "overrated"

Russian River. Every time I even hear "Pliny" I die a little more inside. They make some decent beer, but Jesus, chill out.

Every brewery can be overrated due to someone's experience. Maybe you think it's overrated because you'll never have their best beers(TG), maybe they're overrated because its in the middle of nowhere and a pain in the ass to get your hands on(HF), maybe you think it's overrated because you don't understand beer(RR?!), maybe it's overrated because the hype train has been running for a very long time and shows no signs of stopping(FFF), maybe it's overrated because you're against quality beer for a reasonable price(Lagunitas, Bell's), or maybe it's overrated because it's been around for so long time and sees distribution virtually everywhere(Stone, DFH, Founders). Whatever the reason, someone can always find something to overrate a brewery. I just don't think there is a real answer, though green flash seems as close to a consensus as there can be for something like this here.

I don't hate on GF. Their IPAs are good enough to drink and easy to find on the East Coast.

Definitely overrated and overpriced is Rogue. Will not touch it with a ten foot pole.

This thread is the beer equivalent of the very idea of first world problems.

We call a brewery overrated because they only make two or three world class beers? Or just a couple of beers I regualrly pick up?

This is evidence that we are taking this golden age of beer for granted.

Those three/four beers keep coming up as if those are the only good beers Bell's ever put out, but a ton of the other stuff is great too. Third Coast Old Ale is great, even though it never gets talked about on here despite high ratings and wide availability. Kalamazoo Stout is an above-average stout, and they put out some great lagers (Q Falls, TCB) and a solid amber.

Then there's the more limited stuff - Hopsoulution is great, Wild One too. And the Planets series: Mars was probably the best malt-forward DIPA I've ever had, I didn't even realize I could like a beer like that. Uranus and Jupiter were both probably the best I've ever had in their respective styles. And I thought Saturn was a very good BBBW, and at $12/6pk it's probably one of the most underpriced beers I've ever purchased.

I've only had 2 RR beers, Pliny and Blind Pig, but both left me underwhelmed. Just my opinion and probably because there are many other beers I can get locally.

I'll add Carton into the mix. I love Boat and 077XX, when I can get it, which is getting harder and harder locally for me. But all the other beers I have had from them, I wouldn't seek to have again. Part of the reason why I have yet to visit the brewery. Well, that and shore traffic in the summer. But I do applaud them for innovating. Just wish their staple beers were a little more available for me, in cans. Growlers is a bit easier to fill with the 2 I love.

Pliny is like a Mercedes . . . you can love the "new thing" better, or hate MB advertising, or think everyone who drives one is a douche, or [fill in the blank], but here's the truth: it's a fucking great car.

So you really like 2 of their beers and applaud their innovation but think they are overrated? Regular Coffee? Epitome? GORP? Decoy? All their saisons?
As far as their regular beers Carton of Milk is definitely the stout version of Boat which a lot of people call the first and best session IPA. BDG is a fantastic real beer for food that isn't trying to blow your head off, I personally respect the balls it takes to make a beer intended to play second fiddle. And Hop Pun is the best pale ale in Jersey right now.
Your comment seems very weird to me especially for a New Jersey guy. I may be their biggest over-rater but I hate Intermezzo. That fact adds to them rather than detracts for me. Some people like it, I don't, but am glad they make it rather than just another IPA like everyone else these days.

I feel like I have to defend Green Flash just a little because of all the hate. I don't love them or anything but Rayon Vert and West Coast IPA are both very good

I would have to agree. In my opinion, their beers are mediocre at best and rather expensive. I don't know that they'd be considered overrated, but I'd add Sierra Nevada to this list. Outside of Celebration, I haven't had a single Sierra Nevada that I'd buy again. They are fairly priced but I just can't see what people like about them.

I'm with you... I have a hard time understanding how anyone who enjoys IPA's wouldn't like the West Coast IPA. I'm also a big fan of palate wrecker.
