So guys planning on making the 4.5 hour trip early tomorrow morning from CT for some heady. First stop is Hunger Mountain Food Coop in Montpelier VT, be there around 7:45 AM - hopefully that is early enough? Second stop will be Winooski Beverage - hopefully be there around 9 AM. Since I will be all done around 11 AM or so, what fun things should I check out or do while up that way? Besides immediately cracking open and drinking a heady lol. Was thinking maybe do some hiking or golfing up that way? All ideas welcome, weather looks great and I love the outdoors especially this far up!

Any other tips for my first time trip? (on beer/places/food/anything)

    Thanks!

    Joe

Prohibition Pig has amazing food and obviously great beer, I wouldn't skip it if you're up there.

mad taco across from mehuron's. http://www.themadtaco.com/directions.html

i've had double sunshine there before, as an example of the level of their taplist. good tacos too.

bonus is that mehuron's is no slouch either; should be able to find some good things there.

That (7:45) will be early enough, but their delivery (HM Coop) is at around 9am, so you won't make it to Winooski by 9. Winooski delivery is around 10am. If your up front and line at coop you could make it in line in Winooski on time. This time of year is pretty busy with people doing excursions similar to yours. There is plenty of great hiking in that area, or a kayak rental on the lake would be fun. Camels Hump is a nice hike, this links to a good 3.5 hr loop http://www.localhikes.com/Hikes/Camels_Hump_West_1303.asp

Where do you recommend a kayak rental and what lake? That sounds like a blast. Or I might start heading back down south, play golf at Mt. Snow then make a run to Treehouse if it's not too late for some Green. What a day if that all works out!!

Tree House would be a good stop. Lake Champlain. I bring my own kayak, but I have heard this place is good http://communitysailingcenter.org/paddling-more/kayak-canoe/

How much of a hike are you willing to do? Are you driving back the same day?

Yeah driving back the same day unfortunately lol. Going to be a long day, leaving my house 4 AM be at Hunger MTN for 7:45 AM or so. Then hopefully be done with Winooski around 11 AM and be free to explore then maybe stop at Treehouse around 5-6 PM. Was thinking maybe kayak at the Lake then hit Prohibition Pig, still up in the air though.

Worthy Kitchen in Woodstock also a great place for food and beer on your way out, or Worthy Burger in South Royalton.

another comment, while i like prohibition pig, if i had to only go to one place (that i already know of) it would be three penny in montpelier.

full disclosure: my usual trip is hill farmstead, mehuron's and mad taco, potentially the warren store, potentially the alchemist proper but it's been awhile, and three penny taproom. so, there you go.

I was at Hunger Mountain last Thursday, there was over 100 people in line before 7:45 now that they are selling heady at 8am. Still when I left the everyone in line by 8am had a ticket for Heady. You may not make it out till well after 9am if you show up at 7:45.

Did you get a case if got in line around 8 AM? As long as I get one case I will be happy. I will still shoot to Winooski and hope for another there but if not oh well...

Everyone in line who got a ticket got a full case. They had a large stack of cases, I think I heard someone say 160. This was also Brew Fest weekend so the line may have been longer than normal, not sure.

From there we went to Discount Beverage around the corner where there was more Heady available at a 1 4pack per person limit. A limited number were in the cooler but they kept restocking as people came in.

Also managed to score some in Waterbury at the Village Market but might have gotten lucky on that one as it was a Wednesday delivery location.

FYI Warren store was selling cases of Sip of Sunshine by 10am last Thursday.

You can Rent kayak/paddle boards in Burlington at north beach, and I believe at the Waterbury reservoir
