I know there are some that dont like this, but somthing I almost always do is write the name and address of the person on the side of the box to prevent from the label coming off thing..I know people re use boxes, Ive had it happen to me and I just scratch off the info when I get one..

@John_M that was my hope & I think you're right in the vast majority of cases. The fear is always that one will encounter a UPS/FedEx *hero* who's determined to militantly enforce every petty rule while saving Western civilization from the evils of alcohol. Shudder...

Haha I changed hero to "thirsty and unscrupulous craft brew lover" and it describes my fear.

I've never put pennies, macaroni boxes, etc. in mine to mask noise. Warehouses aren't exactly quiet and I always felt like those kinds of noises would only make someone think there was something broken inside, open the box up, and boom..I'm out a lot.

I know one time we were getting a shipment of 12 chocolate rain in and according to fedex the tape that sealed the box 'came undone' and had to be picked up at the distribution center. Thankfully, the worker assumed @jlindros was a distributor and only stated that in the future the box had to have a "21+" sticker on it, or something like that. ...oh man if they'd kept that styro...

Just an update sorry I didn't post yesterday but
I spoke briefly yesterday with them and it went like a bad job interview to an extent "we'll contact you" but they said the label probably fell off. Gonna give them until 4 again then I'm going to call back and start the insurance process. I appreciate all the advice and feedback. I think I'm gonna go with the I make steak sauces in collectable bottles. That sounded good

Even though that goes against what I told you to say and keep in mind your conversation may be recorded. Whatever, falls back on you anyways, not me.

I'll stay with what you said. They don't have a way of proving what's in the box without a label on it

Smart move. You start saying things that have liquid and glass...well...you just open yourself up for issues.

That being said, I am rather disappointed I won't be getting that Cow Boss extra...

That's true and I've been trying to find one locally to purchase.

I have used those a few times if I was short on time and hadn't taped the label to the box as you describe (my MO). I have had a label "fall off" once or twice, and always when using the stupid pouch things. Moral of the story is to tape the label to the box (and put one inside, though I always forget to) instead of using shitty pouches that get ripped off.

Liquid/glass really shouldn't be an issue, just when that liquid is alcohol.

My go to is that I'm shipping marinades, as even if they tracked down the box and said "Um, this is beer" I can always say that it's beer bottles that have been reused and contain marinades. The would have to open the bottle (thus destroying my item intentionally) to prove otherwise.

I prefer marinades over steak sauces because the watery consistency works better with marinades, imo.

@LehighAce06 that was my reasoning too. I figured reasonable fedex employees do not want to call their customers liars...Do not want to destroy customers' property. If they were wrong & it was marinades, what then???

I went with internet foodies because I've always told them I'm a hobbyist not a business, who swaps with other hobbyists, but doesn't sell. Since I'm not selling anything I don't think I'm bound by food labeling laws, ie it's ok that the bottles still have beer labels on em rather than marinade ingredients & nutritional information. It's a friendly rather than commercial exchange. Every word of it true but *marinade* though people often marinade in beer so then only the claim that it's repackaged is untrue.

I actually had that fail. FedEx 'lost' a box, then I got a phonecall saying it was run over by a truck. She was very nice and helped me with the claims process. Few days later I got a call from the "legal department" and this person stated I was shipping alcohol, etc. I proceeded to get very upset, saying how suspicious this was now as one person said it was run over in a warehouse and now that I'm filing an insurance claim it has mysteriously become alcohol (stated I was shipping BBQ sauce in custom glassware). This went back and forth for 4 weeks until I got a letter in the mail stating my claim bounced back due to someone stating it contained alcohol. I called back one last time, went off on the person, and promptly hung up. I did not want to push the issue as I feared maybe they DID have my box and opened it up and discovered it was alcohol (and I subsequently did not want to get my account flagged).

I pushed, they pushed back, they won.

I use 'vintage collectible Coca-Cola bottles.' It explains the sloshing, why I'm using wine shippers and it's a story that's easy to, ahem, swallow.
