Collaboration Beers, Barrel Aged Beers, Craft Breweries bought out by BMC breweries who some folks still believe are “local”, canned beers that are flat, and Brett. ‘nough said.

I love the idea of collaboration beers....I just haven't came across many that were really good, most recently Brux was pretty darn tasty though. I can agree with the BBA craze. Many breweries are just tossing their mediocre beer in a barrel in the hopes of selling their newly created rare waxed tipped small batch bottles at an exorbitant price.

No bad experience with flat beer in cans or brett.

I agree. I think you should avoid these beers for as long as the rest of us live.

I, too, love the idea of concept beers. I think "I really like Brewery X and Brewery Y, together they should be amazing!" But they rarely are. They are usually mediocre at best and overpriced. It may just be a case of too many cooks spoil the broth. I have to wonder how many even do pilot batches.

Collab beers are just over done, as are the barrel aged beers-these were quirky before but now are just annoying. The best barrel aged beers I have had recently are fro Avery and Breckenridge, but when my local crappy brewpub-yeah you Seabright, is tunring out barrel aged beers there is something wrong in the universe.

Breweries that still cant figure out bottle dating, High ABV beers that only come in 22s or 750s, half-assed attempts at sours, and the use of brett for the sake of using brett. If you are going to use it, do it in a way that adds to the beer. Not just trying to be trendy.

This seems to be a love/hate beer. I thought it was good, what didn't you like about it?

I don't know if I can specify one thing or another (both times I had it were at larger tastings), but in general I thought it was not good, especially disappointing given the RR name on it. I would revisit it, but the price tag is especially off-putting for a beer I didn't like.

    Solutions:

Collaboration beers - don't buy them.
    Barrel-aged beers - don't buy them.
Craft Breweries bought out by BMC breweries who some folks still believe are “local” - don't buy them.
Canned beers that are flat - not sure what you're talking about.
Brett - you're fed up with a yeast?

    Everytime I open a collaboration beer I tell myself the same thing I tell my wife when we are about to get sexy;
    Prepare yourself for disappointment.

Beer geeks who have never visited the great brewing nations of the world and instead trained their palates by drinking stylistically overdone beers and who then move on to become BJCP judges and reward homebrewers who make similarly stylistically overdone beers. Homebrewers who tout said accolades as justification for becoming professional “craft” brewers. The beer geeks that celebrate the aforementioned craft brewers/beers as the best in the world.

    I agree with the OP.

I would like to add several personal gripes:
    • Beer-Food pairing. It's all over the place and I can't stand it anymore, just advertise your beer without telling me how well it pairs with raspberry-infused rabbit legs.
    • Exotic ingredient syndrome: Another of my pet peeves with the beer industry, just make me a good beer please and lose the guava puree.
    • Food Channel chefs: Are these people full of themselves or what...did you hear, Mario Battali recommends DFH 90 Minute IPA with his pasta fagole.
All this beer crap is really in your face in NYC, the city where advertising and image trump substance, after a while it makes you sick.

Tastes change and IMHO, styles are improved upon. I'd much rather see things improve than stay the same, which I'm assuming all those great brewing nations have done over centuries...

I think in principal you're right, but in practice it just doesn't seem to work out that way.
