For being a straight up Russian Imperial Stout, I feel it doesn't need to see a barrel. It's a tasty brew without! So much depth of flavor.

I received my box from @WesMantooth on Friday and I've been drinking my way through it with reckless abandon, which includes this gem
    [IMG]
Pours a nice deep dark golden hue and a few fat fingers of creamy white head.
Despite being two months old (canned 5/17) the flavor seemed to be quite stellar. Good prominent hop profile with a nice balance of malt. Really makes me wonder what this tastes like fresh.
The 11% didn't seem all that noticeable and I think i could have a few more though I know I'd feel it.
A very nice sipper that I'm very happy to have been able to try. Thanks Corey!

That one is pretty dangerous. Probably why they came up with the name as a warning label for us drunks. The last one I had was about 3 weeks ago, and I didnt notice much of a difference. I think it is built to stand the test of time fairly well, like Resin.

For what it's worth, I like Unsessionable (the name too, though I disagree) much more.

Between the blue on the can and the "1Z" looking a bit like a 12, I thought for a moment you were declaring yourself a SF based Seahawk fan!

@WesMantooth sent me one of these in a crazy mix, and damned! I was doing just fine seeing double, but this beer made me hear voices and made my vision laser-like.

Good afternoon all NBS followers and hello to all you newbies that may be visiting for the first time. And thanks to maria for getting us off to a great start.

It's been kind of an up and down week for me. To start had to battle with a kidney stone and finally had it blasted on Wednesday so that was the bad part of the week. I needed to recoup a little so hooked up the camper and spent the last 4 days on Cape Cod kind of relaxing drinking lots of beer some good some not so good. I did feel well enough to do a 100 mile charity bike ride on the cape on Saturday. Took it fairly easy, took a little over six hours as I let my significant other set the pace for the two of us.

On to my new beer for this Sunday. I visited Devils Purse Brewing in S. Dennis on the cape while I was there and brought back a few crowlers of there beers to drink at a later time. So my new beer this Sunday is Sevenstone DIPA from Devils Purse. I didn't realized as I visited them this was a new release this week for them.
This beer poured a darker brownish orange color in my tulip glass with a nice white foamy head that disappeared pretty quickly.
This beer has a very nice nose with many pleasant aromas for some tropical fruits with a background of what I would say is a barnyard of some sort.
They taste is fairly complex for a DIPA as it does contain some Brett yeast used in the final fermentation which gives it that little bit of that barnyard taste and smell.
The mouth feel was smooth with a nice amount of carbonation even after a few days in the crowler.
This is a better than average DIPA which after a few sips I found I enjoyed a lot I think it just takes a few swallows for my taste buds to get used to the brett used in the final fermentation. I will look these guys up again in a later summer visit to the cape.
I will admit that the one thing I love about the cape is the fresh oysters and every night at the campsite you would find me shucking at least 2 dozen oysters for appetizer for dinner. We tried many different on but the ones from Washburn Island were by far the best we had.
Cheers and perhaps I will be back with another beer later.

Thanks! I pulled that cover pic off the web because I couldn't find my 50+ year old copy of "All About Dinosaurs" to save my life. I apparently put it in a safe place where NO ONE will ever find it.
I must have copied that cover a 100 times...

    Cheers!

I've been hounding the wife to take a day trip down to Santa Cruz and Capitol for a few weeks. Friday night I mentioned wanting to go on a bike ride (my normal Saturday morning thing) and she mentioned my want for the day trip down south.
Great drive down Highway 1 and when she asked about Capitola, I came clean with waning to hit SARA finally.
Nice little place, great selections of sour styles and came home with this
    [IMG]
Pours a...brackish brown with less than a finger of head.
Nose is a mix of funk and salt. Farmhouse-Gose ish, which is the same on the taste spectrum.
The more I sip this, the more I like it. Which could be a result of it ringing in at 9%.
There is a flavor in the back of my mouth that I can't put my finger on that I really like.
I think the low-ish BA rating could be a result of the flavor that lingers but I really like this. Not too funky at all and the right amount of salty Gose-ish salt.
    Very enjoyable!

Good Afternoon my fine friends...here is my 2nd contribution to New Beer Sunday...in this case, New Brooklyn Sunday...

A: A cloudy rusty brown with a fingers worth of head that broke leaving some fine lacing to the end. 4.25

S: Well, there is no doubt that this is aged in bourbon barrels. The bourbon is dominant on the nose, while I also picked up vanilla, and toffee/caramel notes. Faint oak comes in on the end. 4.25

T: A bourbon barrel-aged English barleywine? Yes please. As with the nose, the bourbon elements are all up at the front. One gets the bourbon, vanilla and toffee first, then the dark fruits and typical sweetness of an English barleywine coming in close after. Decadent. 4.5

M: Smooth and oh so silky. There is no sense that you are drinking a beer with a 13% ABV, the booze is hidden very well. Low carbonation and though the sweetness comes through more as it warms, the smooth doesn't dissipate. 4.5

O: I am impressed. The barrel and the base work together so well and the drinker is left with an amazing beer that is one hell of a sipper. I only wish I had more in the cellar. 4.5

    Final : 4.43
    Have a great Sunday folks...Enjoy!

YES!! A Dinosaur dig "out west" (as we say) is still on my list! The fossil bed in Ohio is way too old in my amateur experience.

More new beers from @garymuchow, thanks! This one is Fulton Insurrection. It's pretty good, but this batch might be a little off after reading other reviews. Kind of reminds me of the last batch of Double Duckpin, cheers!

    Thank you garymuchow for this
12 oz bottle poured into a teku

A- A clear reddish amber with a three finger off white head.

S- Resin, hints of tropical fruits, faint citrus, lot of caramel malt sweetness.

T- Sweet caramel malts, slightly boozy, citrus, faint tropical fruits, resin/piney finish.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- I feel this is pretty sweet for an IIPA, but still a tasty beer. They are saying it is hopped with Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic, but neither hop is really standing out in this one. (504 characters)

If ever you and @utopiajane come across the border, we'll order it! It's a small pizzeria near where i used to live in the country (i know live in the suburbs). The amount of meat they jam on the pizza is unreal and very tasty :grinning:

I've seen some footprints already in the canyons of Zion National Park and out in Horseshoe Canyon on the border of Robber's Roost/Maze District of Canyonlands National Park. Either it's in Vernal or Northern CO, just not sure and lazy to google it, but visited a place back around 2003, National Dinosaur Monument, very cool place. Also off of Highway 6 in Utah there is a place called Dinosaur Quarry something like that out there, never been though, but I'm sure it is a place worth checking out.

    Cheers!

More for this list: I think parts of the John Day Fossil Beds in Oregon are still having digs carried out in them, plus the scenery is spectacular.

    New Belgian Fruit Beer Sunday!

I was at SC when I seen this. I was curious, so I bought it. Well now I am enjoying this today for New Beer Sunday. I'm over my main man's house @gillagorilla sharing is caring! Oh and here's the beer!

    And pairing it with this!

You guys can see what the beer pours...no use in examining details on her looks. Let's see what the aroma tells me! First hits of grains and then BAM! Raspberries! Smells intense like a Raspberry soda! Next step the flavor! First hits with funky grains, then another slap of Raspberries with residual sugars backing. This finishes sweet and semi dry. Lingering raspberries in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium light with soft carbonation.

Overall: I am not wowed by this beer but it's a tasty lil brew. It falls short for being a Belgian anything.. It does nail the raspberry flavor and no booze is detected. I guess it has that going for it. I could ask for little more carbonation that would entertain the palate. So all in all it's a tasty beer that I would drink again...it's a lesser Version of a New Glarus brew. This brew is Worthy!

    Grade: B+

    Cheers my fellow NBS Crew!

    New American Pale Ale Sunday

Hello all! A nice (about 80 degree), but cloudy day here in Milwaukee. Today's brew is from Alaskan - Freeride. I don't believe that the brewery distributes to my home state of New Jersey, and since moving to Wisconsin about a year and a half ago, I've seen this one on the shelf, but kept thinking "next time". This morning I finally bought a six-pack of cans. It's an enjoyable APA. Well-balanced, enough hops and malt are there to give it a nice character. I scored it all 4's, putting it a bit above the current average of 3.8. (About half-way through the first can, I was thinking SLIGHTLY lower, but I was sold by the end of it.) Enjoying a second one now! A nice, easy-drinking pale ale!
