Surprised nothing has popped up yet.

For those unknown this is another Casa Agria type(without all the negative stuff). I personally haven't tried any of theirs beers but I did sign up for their society they put on sale today.

Their society went on sale today at 10am, 5 beers, 2 bottles of each plus merch and more for 200 flat. They ship in CA and offer proxies. Also, they are out of Bakersfield(probably 40 minutes from KRBC).

Seems solid, very excited for their brews! Would love to hear some opinions of any guys who have tried their brews.

    Cheers.

their beers are all over certain beer (trade) groups on BA. They've received positive reviews and the dozens of check-ins on Untappd have been positive

I haven't really been following things much because I didn't really care, but from what I can pick up:

    - No real solid plans to have a tasting room (they say they will at some point)
    - Currently not licensed

    That second one is huge.

Why did you sign up for their club if you haven't tried any of their beers?

Everytime I see kyle post on sabae I cringe. He catered everything for that Facebook group and the #torchturds who are in it. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

It was realitively cheap imo. 200 isn't a big deal and some buddies I trust have had them and said they were pretty solid. I'm in no way promoting the brewery, just trying to get a little more feedback from guys who have tried their beer as well.

The J Wakefield Brewing thread on another site should be required reading for anyone throwing money at a wild ale homebrewer going pro.

That said, it looks like they've already sold 150 memberships. Impressive.

While I'm assuming they will be putting out some sort of wild ales aged in various barrels, it still seems inherently strange to name a brewery after the Greek god of wine

It was only 150 memberships so not that hard to sell out when kyle was pushing it as hard as he was on facebook. My buddy in Michigan bought a membership so there is a buzz but I have to stress it's only from sour and Barrel aged enthusiasts. Which is the skum of beer Facebook groups.

they must have increased member numbers or not given out the lower numbers because the only ones left are 200+

See that word 'solid' used in describing this fledgling brewery project. What exactly is solid about these beer entreprenuers? Other than than people willing to gamble $200.

Summary: Hyped homebrewer who had a good house bacterial culture and knew how to throw a ton of fruit at Berliners did a Kickstarter, got a bunch of signups, proceeded to grossly underestimate the timeline to open a brewery and fail horribly at communication, then got defensive when people wondered why he couldn't be bothered to keep his supporters updated.

Links to the forum where the thread has taken place aren't permitted and it's 80+ pages, but it's a template for how people should be prepared for sour-focused homebrewers getting into their first pro endeavor.

I live in Bakersfield where the brewery will shortly be open. I've had the full line up of the pilot batches of his sour beers. I can confirm they are very good even in their non oak aged state. The brewery will offer a very small tasting area when they open. Kyle has some good vision and has potential to get on the map as a great sour brewer. The brewery's story is not much different than Casa Agria's but has received much less hate because Kyle took the time and money to get bottle samples of his beer to as many people as possible. Hate if you want but with the exception of KRBC up the hill and mediocre Lengthwise, we are a craft beer wasteland and this new brewery opening up is great news for us locals.
