Michigan Hunting this week - help please!

    I'm up north in Prescott, Michigan at the inlaws for 7 days. I am ok to travel around the state, but was hoping some people knew of some little gems to find some decent brews. I'm bummed I can't find any Clown Shoes Ballad of Minnie Quay! I've got a pub in my house and have been collecting bottles of Clown Shoes and Cigar City for display. If you knew how to get my hands on a bottle of that, you'd make this week worth it.

    As for just trying some good brews, I'd also love to find some Founders CBS/KBS, Sweet Repute, Bells (planets, oracle), and any other great local brews you can recommend. Thanks so much for any and all help! I'll be passing out through Ohio on the way back down to NC, so if you have recommendations for there (three floyds, thirsty dog, etc) it would be appreciated!

    You could get some luck with the newest of the planet series, Neptune. That is still sitting around. I'm not familiar with prescott mi so I can't really give you any advice on where to go.

    As far as founders kbs, CBS, and sweet repute you are pretty much out of luck. Sweet repute was bottled a few years ago and only available via trade, kbs is gone immediately, and CBS gets tapped randomly but it seems like most places that got some already tapped it months ago.

    Look for some good odd side, shorts, or brewery vivant stuff that you can't get outside of mi.

    I just looked up prescott and there's really nothing around there as far as breweries go. Sorry.

    yeah i think you are going to be out of luck on pretty much all of those wants, unless you brought stuff up with you to trade. Or for some reason some store gets rare items and doesn't sell them.

    - Minnie Quay came and went months ago
    - Neptune is already gone from my area (Lansing) and the bell's general store is out
    - oracle already disappeared
    - All the founders stuff is gone to long gone.
    - Maybe can find Wootstout. Distribution for Stone is screwed up here in Mid Michigan now, so we barely saw it.

    I haven't been to my bottle shop in a bit, busy with a newborn, but i also haven't seen them posting anything amazing on FB, and they usually do. Seems like a slow time for releases.

    Thanks for the feedback guys! I figured most of that stuff would be tough to find. I'm planning on shooting down to Detroit (or Traverse) for a thorough beer hunt. Any recommendation on places to stop, or beers to look for? I have had most of the planets, we get those in Charlotte. I don't think we've got Neptune yet though, but I could be wrong, it's a bit of a blur at this point... switching through so many sites and making calls to try and land a bottle of Minnie or KBS. So far all I've found is some random Clown Shoes I was missing (Date Night Saison, Ohio Unidragon, and Royal Standard) and a few individual bottles of Founders I hadn't tried. I feel like it was easier in Florida hunting Cigar City this summer - maybe because I'm so far north in Prescott away from most of the action in Michigan. I know there's gotta be some hot spots somewhere so I don't go home empty handed :slight_frown:

    Prescott is kinda in the middle of nowhere.

    There is a pretty decent store about an hour south in Bay City called Ideal Party Store.

    The thing about asking on a site like BA is that any store suggested is unlikely to have any of the harder to get stuff. The exception is stores that jack up the price. Probably the only way is to stop at random places and get lucky.

    When you come through metro Detroit go to holiday market in royal oak. They get their shipment on Wednesdays around noon. Or champagnes in Warren. If you're in Warren go to kuhnhenn. It's great

    I agree with @sarcastro that out-of-the-way stores might be the best bet. Here's one in Mt. Pleasant http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/11991/?view=ratings where I've seen some good stuff, so it may be worth a look. While in Mt. Pleasant, two established breweries that are pretty good and one new one (I haven't been to it) will give you something else to do while in town. I think there is another store in town that also gets some good stuff, but I don't recall its name and I've never been to it.

    Good luck, but the bottles you are looking for were long gone before you got here.

    If I knew where I could go buy more Minnie Quay or more KBS, believe me I would have already went and bought more Minnie Quay and KBS

    Yeah, you WILL NOT find a bottle of KBS in a store, and if you call places you'll just be wasting their time and yours. It came out in April and is gone in hours, and most of it is spoken for before it even gets into the store. Probably ditto for Minnie Quay, though I could imagine that hiding on a shelf somewhere among a bunch of expired bombers in some off the beaten path liquor store.

    That said, if you're dead set on KBS, it's not too hard to trade for. If you brought up some Cigar City and Wicked Weed, even shelf stuff might pull a KBS if you're willing to go over $4$ a bit.

    Sorry to bother you! Was just hopeful, I'm not from up here, so I'm really only familiar with the NC releases (Wicked Weed, Westbrook, etc), and the Florida ones (Cigar City). Was just hoping somebody would have some helpful hints to save me some time, since this is still a family trip and I'm only here a week. I also asked for any recommendations on other good local stuff - everything didn't need to be a whale, or hard to obtain. I'll be in Philly/Pittsburgh/Maryland next week for a wedding, maybe I'll have better luck there.

    Thank you so much to everyone that took the time to read and help out! I'll check out some of these recommendations maybe tomorrow or Monday.

    It just seems a bit slow on good releases right hit now. I haven't found the need to grab anything Ina few weeks.

    If you had brought some trades, Mexican cake, etc. we would all help you clean up :slight_smile:

    As everybody said, there is not a single bottle of KBS in this state....Too bad you weren't here in September. Odd side is coming out with a BA IPA, which should be pretty good. If you are in TC, go to Rare Bird. I have had CBS there on 2 occasions, while I doubt they will have it, they may be tapping something good....

    Sorry if I came off as a dick, just trying to be realistic. I know it comes off like that at times. It can never hurt to ask. There is plenty of great beer out there, no need to focus on the high profile limited released.

    Won't be to GR, but thanks for the offer! Appreciate you! I did get out to Mt. Pleasant and found some Oracle, and a bunch of Odd Side brews. I got some Wootstout in Frankenmuth, as well as some Clown Shoes (Mango, Chocolate Sombrero, Royal Standard, etc). I'm gonna hit up the Sexual Chocolate release in Winston Salem on the way home, but will hit some of the Detroit recommendations on the way out. Thanks again for the help guys! Kinda bummed I'll miss the next Michigan only release by Clown Shoes next week (Cosmic Farmer).

    Speaking of Odd Side - anyplace on the way out to get Hipster Brunch, El Dankerink, Beautiful Disaster, or any of there other good ones? I loved the Mocha. Not on CCB Cubano Espresso, but it can get me by until Florida in September!

    Dankerino might still be around, but Hipster Brunch sold out in hours everywhere around here, and it's a tough trade too.
