Right Proper is my favorite DC brewery. The "what local spoils you" thread made me circle back to their site to see what they have available right now.

Their entire list has nothing above 6% -- and half below 4%. A notable deviation from the current craft beer climate where it seems like every brewery has at least a flagship IPA or double IPA. Or the extreme of the session beer trend. Or both. I really like their approach. Styles and variations on styles you can't find anywhere else.
      • Hilde 4.7% wermutbier
This American Primitive Beer is brewed with spelt and a blend of fresh and dried meadow herbs including mugwort, yarrow, and blue vervain as well as Hallertau Blanc and Centennial hops to mimic some of the botanical flavors of a dry vermouth. This is our third collaboration with The Brewer's Art and was open fermented with a blend of brettanomyces and lactobacillus. Expect a refreshing and herbaceous experience.

      • COMRADE! 2.4% anti-imperial stout
The recipe for this small stout was designed to deliver all the luxurious body and impact of a massive Russian Imperial Stout at 1/5 the alcohol strength. A true breakfast beer brewed with oats, lactose, and a sense of humor.

      • Naisten Sahti 3.8% Nordic Folk Beer
This table strength beer is inspired by the historic Finnish tradition of sahti brewing. Brewed with smoked malts, whole juniper branches and berries, rye, and oats for a rustic and woodsy drinking experience.

      • Gregarious 3.4% seaweed gose
This collaborative brew with our friends at Oxbow Brewing Co. was open fermented with lactobacillus and brewed with spelt and Dulse and Alaria seaweed varieties and lightly dry-hopped with Lemondrop. The seaweeds were harvested from the Maine coast by Maine Seaweed.

      • Kick.Kick.Snare 3.1% dry hopped Berliner weisse
This tart and rustic wheat beer is our first beer to be 100% fermented with lactobacillus. Expect high acidity and citrus fruit with Citra and Cascade hop aromatics--boom bap!

      • Range Life 5.7% hop-focused wheat beer
Each batch of our wheat beer is brewed with an evolving hopping scheme. This iteration of Range Life features Centennial and Amarillo hops for notes of resinous pine, citrus, and sweet melon.

      • No Depression 5.5% country alt
Our Country Alt is open-fermented with our house saison strain. Dark and toasty, but refreshing with an accentuated bitterness. The beer references the old tradition of Düsseldorf Altbier, but with a Walloon accent.

      • Häxan 5.5% robust porter
Named after the silent era Scandinavian documentary on witchcraft, Häxan is brewed with an assortment of roasted malts and oats. Full bodied with round notes of coffee and dark chocolate.

      • Ornette 3.7% grisette
Our rustic farmhouse wheat ale is open fermented with a mix of yeasts from some of our favorite traditional farmhouse breweries. Dry and sprite with flavors of pepper, hay, and stone fruit. Named after visionary jazz player Ornette Coleman.

I am a huge fan of RP these days. A great list of beers under 5% and half pours at half price means that I can try 4 different beers and still drive home. And battling panda-bots.

Does this beer pull it off without being cloyingly sweet? I know the oats and lactose with help, but I don't see how they get something that full bodied without an extremely high F.G.

I've been to RP twice while visiting DC. Really like what they're doing. I like that they often offer styles that aren't very well represented among US brewers.

I would be completely stunned if they made a single beer tht was cloyingly sweet.

I've had it before, and found it to be well-balanced and not too sweet. It was like drinking a 5-6% abv milk stout in every way except for the alcohol levels.
