Now that I have amassed a large collection of growlers from different breweries I am looking for ideas on how to display them. Anyone have a cool shelf/display picture to help me get some ideas? I googled growler display shelf and saw a couple things but was maybe looking to do something other then a flat shelf.
I can't find a picture of them, but l had mine hanging in a row from hooks l made that were screwed to a 2x4 in the rafters in my garage/beer museum at my last house. They all hung at an angle and looked pretty cool. l have a hanging stainless pot rack with hooks that l'm considering using, but might not be big enough. l'm also considering putting up a chain from one end of the room to the other (maybe not wall-to-wall, between two points on the ceiling so there will be a bit of a sag in the between) and making individual hooks for the growlers. l'm currently working on my new museum and will post a picture when it happens.
I use them to bottle my homebrew. I then return them to whoever sent it to me in hopes that it eventually comes back filled . If I wasn't doing this o would probably make them into some cool light fixtures or the beer room. Probably with Xmas lights inside.
I knew a guy who had them displayed hanging from the 2x4 like SirBottleCap, but the difference being he had screwed the caps to the board, and then put the bottles on like capping it in reverse. I plan to do that eventually with some of mine. I'm also thinking about getting light kits to turn a couple into either stand-up lamps or hanging lampshade type things.
One Trick Pony Brewery, in Lansing IL, has an impressive collection of growlers from all over, hanging on hooks near the ceiling around the funky tasting room.
I was in a brewery this past week that had a bunch of growlers displayed, so I asked if the owners/brewers had visited all of these breweries that were represented. The reply was that the growlers were accumulated from customers bringing them in and giving them to the brewery because the person donating them didn't want them anymore because they were cluttering their house. Growlers are great if you re-use them, or if you can find a cool way to display them in a man cave, etc., otherwise they become clutter.
Six months or so later I finally finished this project. I figured a shelf was best. I'm happy with it and don't have room for much more, the doubles of some of these are in a box.
