Favorite Shipyard Beer

    I have never sampled any beers from this brewer, but I picked up a 12 pack of their Monkey Fist IPA. I will sample it in a couple of days, then rate it. What is the opinion of their beers, and what is your favorite from them? Thanks!!

    Shipyard is not very well thought of here. Issues with diacetyl mainly. I do like a few of their beers - Old Thumper and Smashed Pumpkin come to mind. I didn't think Monkey Fist was too bad.

    I've had their pumpkin beer, the higher ABV offering, and it was very good...Which of their beers showcase the diacytel? Monkey Fist?? Reviewing this on Friday.

    double thumper is awesome...one of the first beers that someone introduced me into craft beer.

    I enjoy their Black IPA, Monkey Fist is decent, and many of the Pugsley Signature barrel series are pretty solid. Smashed Pumpkin is also always on my fall list.

    Gonna second Old Thumper, but only had a few ales of their, and their dreadful Summer Ale I recall recently.

    I'm willing to give them a go if they drop something decent, but where I live their beers are more expensive that Sierra Nevada, Captain Lawrence and Otter Creek....my extra affordable beers

    Insert Shipyard sucks joke here...but all honestly they sorta do.
    I did a blind taster with Quality IPAs and threw Monkey fist in there as a joke
    Everyone picked that one out right away with a response like "wtf is that?"

    I don't buy much of their stuff anymore but I do eat at their brewpub Federal Jacks every year when I visit Maine. I enjoy the Thumpers and Longfellow among a few others. Besides the diacetyl issue I think they also aren't loved on here because they focus mostly on British style beers.

    I don't usually drink Shipyard, but when I do it's Old Thumper or Prelude.

    Monkeyfist is solid, though I wouldn't get 12 of em. Old Thumper and Double Old thumper are great and their barrel aged barleywine is very good as well.

    Smashed Blueberry is one of the best non-Belgian/sour fruit beers out there IMO.
