    Hi everyone,

So within the week I'll be moving to NYC for a new job from Boston. I love Trillium. Its the perfect size so its never crowded and the beer always seems to be award winning level and fresh, fresh, fresh. I can just fill up a growler on the way home and an hour later be sipping on some of the best IPAs and sours in the country. I will shed a single tear for moving away from this brewery.

So my really stupid question is..... What compares to Trillium in NYC? Are there small breweries that are on the same level as like a Trillium? Suggestions please! Thanks everyone!

I'd say other half is the most similar. Only times it gets crazy are during can releases.

Other Half? Other Half. The cans are released only every other weekend, but the fresh stuff from the taps is amazing.

Other Half would be the closest NY brewery to Trillium but I think Trillium is a step above. Other Half's beers are amazing and its my favorite in the city but Trillium is on another level right now. Ft Point & Congress St IPA's blew me away when I tried them for the first time a few weeks ago.

No need to compare any and everything to Trillium; Other Half makes great IPAs (maybe too many though), Singlecut has an excellent all-around lineup, Finback does lots of awesome and experimental beers, and Grimm has some ridiculously good beers (Simcoe was amazing, Supergoing lovely). I recommend giving beers from Flagship, Barrier (just outside Queens) and Gunhill Brewing a try too.

Does Grimm Brewing have a tap room? Or do I have to get it through distribution? Great overall advice. Thanks!

    The short answer is no.

The long answer is well...sort of.

But you'll find that you don't have to go to the actual brewery to get growlers of great beer.

Yea, no tap room unfortunately. If they had one I'd probably live out of it.

Rushing Duck is putting out some excellent IPAs as well.

One benefit of being in NY vs MA is not having to tote around growlers for each specific brewery.

Agreed; Trillium is wonderful but NYC is awash in some pretty great beer put out by multiple breweries right now. Threes and Transmitter also doing fine work.

This is amazing and will definitely use. Do you know within the buroughs if I can get grimm beers in either bottles or growler fills anywhere or do I have to grab it on draft at one of the locations they point out?

Bottles will be for sale around the city. If I were you, I'd follow all the breweries, beer bars and beer shops on beermenus and Twitter so you'll always know what's on tap and for sale. Just don't leave NYC, because then those notifications will sting when you're a 1,000 miles away and see all types of good stuff available.

FYI, I can't remember which, but a bar in BK (if I remember correctly) tapped a Barrel-aged Double Negative from Grimm just last night.

Flagship? I'm surprised to hear them mentioned alongside the great breweries you are suggesting. Their 3 core beers are pretty lame
