Had no clue bell's oarsman is a berliner-weisse. The name makes me think stale pale or amber ale shelf turd. Been on a berliner binge, searched on here for more examples and was surprised to see oarsman is bell's take on the style. Been walking right by the stuff at the bottle shop for months, d'oh. Any other beers names seem misleading for what they are? Other than zombie dust containing no actual zombies, i know i for one was disappointed.

I know I was surprised that Redbud was a berliner, and a very good one.

Unless there is another RedBud (which would not surprise me one bit), Independence Redbud says upfront and clearly Berliner Weisse Style. There should be no surprise there.

My surprise was based on the name only.

Why, it is quite clearly labeled? Can Berliner's only have certain names? :astonished:

My Texas trading partner said I'll send you a Redbud. So based on the name I would have never guessed it was a berliner. So yeah, for me berliners can't be named Redbud :-).

"That's what she said" Milk stout from Tree House. Odd name, yet insanely good beer.

St. Lupulin from Odell sounds it should be an IPA, not a pale ale.

Fatty Boombalatty (or whatever it's called...) also sounds like it should be an IPA

There's a lot of beers with really silly names. I think that's a big reason I take crap from my macro drinking buddies. They have to call it something and it in no way diminishes my enjoyment of them, but I do wonder where they come up with some of those names. Moon Man is a perfect example. I absolutely love the beer but what the hell is a Moon Man? Someone told me it was named after a cat. What's in a name I guess.

Mad Tree has a beer called Dreamsicle which is brewed with vanilla and orange peel. I thought for sure it was going to be a delicious stout, not a kölsch.

Just had "La Noche Se Mueve" at floyds brew pub. This kinda translates to "The night moves" Expected the beer to have a dark color, not a golden IPA that tasted like a cup of coffee

I don't know, the first time I tried it years and years ago I really thought it was terrible. Luckily, I like it a lot better now! :sunglasses:

I most certainly did NOT say "Sweet Baby Jesus" when I tried DuClaw's Sweet Baby Jesus.

    SanTan Sex Panther is neither.

But it sure sells a lot under the "buy local" banner, the sophomoric name, and label art.
