Hope everyone is having a great NBS and Sunday. It's been a quiet weekend here. My wife is driving back from Cleveland with a friend and hopefully a cooler filled with a few "requests.":sunglasses:

My new beer is the opposite of summer/early fall seasonal, but I have seen this on the shelves for quite some time and my curiosity finally won out. Actually, thinking of ice in August isn't a bad thing, right?

    Schneider Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock

Pretty cool story on the back label about the origins of the style.

Poured into a snifter at a temp of about 50 degrees. I swirled and dumped the yeast in at the end. A beautiful dark reddish muddy brown with a one-finger light tan head. It retreated fairly quickly but left some nice tracks. The nose was full: plum, figs, soy, and even a little beef jerky. The taste really surprised me. Full on dark fruity malt, banana bread, figs, dark cherries and very little bitterness. Sticky soft feel and sweet but not cloying at all. The 12% ABV was masked at this temp and only showed a slow warming on the finish. I love this beer, period!
    Cheers!

My son will be starting college down by Exit 3 this September- hopefully I'll get to try a few more of their beers in the upcoming years, maybe stuff we don't get up here. I really liked their IPA- it reminded me of Two Hearted.

Like my foreshadowing to my next beer? I took off Thursday to head down to the beautiful brewery of New Glarus and score a couple of bottles of Bramble Berry Bourbon Barrel.

A - Dirty ruby that is cloudy. A reddish tan 2.5 finger head forms and holds retention forever. Blobs of lacing along the glass.

S - Big jammy berry notes perfume out of the glass. It is both sweet and tart smelling, but then the big oak and wood notes fill in along with very subtle bourbon and vanilla. Very pleasant.

T - As others have noted, there are so many flavors happening all at once in this beer. The beer was aged on 6 types of berries and I guess: Blackberry, Red Raspberry, Eldeberry, Blueberry, Mulberry, and Wild Strawberry. It is slightly tart, quite jammy and really enjoyable. You can really pick up the oak and bourbon when sipping it.

M - Rich, tart, medium body with a nice soft carbonation that is a bit dry.

O - Quite delicious and I bet it gets a bit more tart with age. Hopefully the bourbon notes fade a bit and lets the berry flavor shine.

My second beer for NBS is Tröegs Brewing Co. - JO·VI·AL

I did not have a chalice within reach so I used my grand snifter poured at 55°F

This Dubbel Pours a moderately cloudy, burgundy with a thick foamy white head that dissipates slowly but never completely with thick, sporadic lacing. The nose is earthy, malty sweet fruits (raisins, figs).

The taste is a light, earthy sweetness of raisins and figs and a mouthfeel that is medium bodied with a reasonable amount of carbonation but finishes smooth.

Overall: A nice beer gift “muled” from the source that did not disappoint. I appreciated the taming of the sweet fruits which seem to overpower some of the Dubbels I have experienced in the past along with a moderately carbonated, smoother mouthfeel. If I see this anywhere I would definitely pick it up. Cheers.

That's exactly why after 100+ ratings only once we could do that I gave up on it almost entirely and went back to reviews. I'd look up a number and couldn't remember when, where, or why I'd had it and liked or disliked it.

New Single Hopped Imperial India Pale American Wheat Lager Sunday!

Work Day was slow and tedious.....BORING to the Max! I said to myself....I can't wait to get home and enjoy a beer. Well here I am drinking a New Beer with the rest of ya! That brew is this...

Pretty Epic Label if you ask me. Enough about that lets dig in and see what this Patriotic brew is talking about. For starters the brew pours a hazy Golden Blonde body with a nice soapy white head..pretty nice to look at. She's a real looker! Back to it now, time for the Aroma! This is straight Mosaic Hops! Dank Peaches and Pineapple with a Lavender vibe. A touch of Honeydew Melon...but for the most part it smells like a bag of Peach Kush...if you catch my drift. Pretty amazing smelling really. Now for a taste test... The flavor matches the aroma with some Pineapple taking the front and a juicy Peach sweetness mid palate. There follows the Floral vibe toward the finish with a hint of grains. Decent malt body making the body both Full yet Gentle. Finishes clean with subtle Bitterness and a lingering Floral/Marijuana flavor in the aftertaste. Carbonation is on point helping the beer to explore all your taste buds.

Overall: This is pretty Outstanding. For a hoppy brew it rides on the Coat Tails of Nobel's Mosaic Showers. I could crush these Bombers with complete ease. Very Easy to drink, neat and clean and isn't boozy with just the right amount of sweetness. It's not a bitter bomb which I dig but don't get me wrong there's some bitterness that lingers around. All in all I found this brew to be enjoyable. This brew is Recommended!

    Grade: A

    Cheers my fellow NBS Crew!

I've been seeing this on the shelves for months but have never wanted to chance it and was lucky to find a single of it today
    [IMG]
I take that back...not "lucky". Just glad I didn't spend the extra $ for the four pack.
This is every bit "petite", as billed.
Don't get me wrong, it's crisp and clean and would be refreshing as hell on a hot day, but it's just not for me. At least not today.
Actually, the more I sip it, it's like a watered saison. As in not beer.
I'll try to be optimistic as to the style and not my expectations, but we'll see.

Good afternoon on this NBS where I have a pathetically late start due to hockey, dump run, poor cell coverage and a rogue run to Whole Foods.

So another one from the Short's variety pack, this one is the Yosemite Scooter Pale Ale.

There's just not much to say about this one. Smells overwhelmingly like cream corn just not in an off-putting way. That essence overwhelms all but a small notion of grain.

Taste is one dimensional for the most part as well as it delivers primarily green olive. Laced around that is a gritty, earthy dirt-ness.

Just not a super good thing IMO. On the plus side, it's fairly refreshing but it's not wickedly intriguing.

    New American IPA Sunday

Hello all! Sunny and 70's here in Wisconsin (though it had been very overcast all morning and earlier this afternoon)! Today's selection is from Deschutes. They made another winner! Pinedrops IPA. The pine character stands out, but it keeps balance with a sweet kiss of pale malt. A lighter, easy-drinking pine-forward IPA. Very nicely done! I scored it a 4.03, slightly higher than the current average of 3.92.

Excellent technique, nicely done, it did add a touch of suspense and continuity.

And while we are at it, your description of the BBBB gave the taste section of my brain serious electric charges of desire.

Well you know there are a few calories in the food but I may over indulge in a few too many beers from time to time also and they can add up.

    Happy New Vienna Sunday!

I always enjoy reading this thread, and love to participate, but too often find I'm without a new beer on a Sunday. It doesn't help that a lot of my consumption is home-brew. Despite the fact that is humid and 95 in JAX today, I was happy to see the Sierra Nevada fall pack finally make it here. I love Flipside, but was excited to try the Vienna Lager. Crisp, tasty, and nicely balanced!

    NBS & THE DEVIL

As a fan of the Duvel chalice, I'm always excited to pour a devil-inspired beer into it.

18th Street Brewery ~ Deal With The Devil ~ Imperial Pale Ale

Provided by the kind and devilish @Hopgoddess312 ~ I finish working my way through Her generous offerings from a few weeks ago with this dark 22 oz bottle.

I thought about saving this beer for the 666th Annual Drink With The Duvel Day ~ June 6, 2016 but reconsidered since the wait could weaken this ale.

As if the label is not striking enough, Deal With The Devil has just punched me in the mouth with a surprisingly sweet piney essence and a warm embracing malty mouthfeel.

This beer seems...to know me. It whispers compliments. It offers a treasure chest of ritualistic hoppy earthy delights. There's something else there...but all I know is that it's NOT sulfur or brimstone. Unless...
This devil is tricksy!!! I expected a big bite and it gave me a warm smooch. Yes, tricksy and FALSE!!!!!
    Oooh...but I do love it...and I will miss it.

Next time I'm in Gary, Indiana I will seek it out, but a trip to R'lyeh is more likely.
Definitely an empty bottle worth saving.

NOTE: The 8.5% ABV is hefty...but not too hefty. Deceptive and potentially dangerous if later I'm inspired to open the 750ml DUVEL cooling in the fridge...

Great review, LJ. You've again shown your typical knack for choosing beer-appropriate books in the pic. I actually especially like the inclusion of a Marc Chagall collection, as I've always found his work to be inexplicably devilish :-)
