One thing that I have brought to tastings that makes everyones life way better is a pack of the little plastic shot glasses. just toss stacks of them around the table, its like $5 for a chub pack of them and lets you pass bottles faster and lets you try a bunch of things without having to rinse out a glass.

I think the Niche conversation is completely separate from the actual Wolfpack bottleshare conversation.

Gotcha. Well let us know some details when you hear what they're planning!

I was at Lunar yesterday and asked the bartender if they do a bottle share. One is held the first saturday of every month in the back area. Forgot what time he said but the first saturday of the month is this coming saturday so I might stop by and see what it's all about.

Sounds good. I'd go if I didn't have plans! Let us know how it is if you end up going.

From my conversation with Vinnie, who is the bartender that seems to be the driving force behind the Wednesdays at Niche, it would definitely be a bottle-share. He said he would be out of town this Wed., and that he hopes to have the innaugural share commence next Wed. I will not personally be in town to see how thiat goes, but I would like to hear from anyone who does attend. I have only participated in bottle-shares amongst friends, so I wasn't able to ask any of the other"important/qualifying" questions to help me better understand how the arrangements will be set. I did think that it was cool to see the derivative of this idea come from the actual restaurant itself.

For the Lunar and Niche shares... Is this something where you just bring a bottle and show up?

It sure would seem so to me, as far as Niche is concerned. But again, my lack of experience in the manor would have me encourage you to call and ask for Vinnie (630 262 1000). As stated previously, he may be out of town at the moment. However, he has to return sometime!

In regards to Lunar, I am not sure. I need to give them a call this week to find out more information. I also need to find out what time the bottle sharing is as I forgot what the bartender told me. I had the feeling that the sharing isn't really a public thing as they don't advertise it, or at least, i've never seen anything of that sort. I will find out more and report back here if anyone is interested sometime this week.

Email sent. Just to confirm, the initial bottle share is at 5pm at Bigbys in Addison on 8/18, right?

I'll take a look at the spreadsheet and plan to bring something that complements the list thus far and then email you the details.

    Looking forward to this!

Hey all! I had dinner at the Two Brothers Roundhouse with a friend this evening and had an opportunity to talk to a manager there. He seemed very interested in the opportunity to host a share and indicated that lot of the people over there would probably love to jump in!

He has to bring it up with some of the higher decision makers, but I think this may be a possible spot in our future rotation. I'll keep you all posted on the details!

I work two blocks from there. It would be a great place to do a share... tons of room. Keep me posted if that is going to happen.

I see for the tasting on 8/18 at Bigby's that over 15 people will be attendence. I would think then that not everyone would get a chance to try every beer brought to the tasting. How will the 'system' work for allowing people to try the beers available?

Good question. I think everyone can probably still try at least a small sample if they really want (given a 22 oz bottle), or we can attempt to simply be gracious with beers we've tried before and turn them down so others can have a pour.

That said, my wife and I are planning on bringing several bottles to share beyond what we would need to - that way, even if someone misses out on a truly nice pour, hopefully everyone will have a chance to have something new and interesting to taste.

I will try and head to the Lunar on the way to the share and get a growler of something to go with the bottles I'm bringing.

    Hey all,

    Just a few things.

    1. Thanks to those are bringing extra bottles and growlers. We all appreciate it! With some of these smaller bottles and the large number of people, the tasting will unfortunately be limited. That being said, if you do have something tasty, but someone else is already bringing it... bring it anyway! This will allow more of us to share the beery love.

    2. I went to Sam's club and bought a large bag of clear plastic tasting glasses. I figure if we make this a regular thing then the supplies can carry over. I would like to ask though if some individuals might bring a bag of pretzels or some other palate clearing munchy. I think 3 or 4 bags should suffice.

    3. I am going to throw together a tasting score card for everybody. Nothing official or super detailed, but enough for you to be able to write down what beers you taste and some notes along the way.

If anyone thinks of anything else let me know!

    -Adam

I'm heading to Bigby's tomorrow - I'll ask if they'd be willing to throw in some pita chips or another palate cleanser for the tasting next week (is it next week already?). Also, for what it's worth, my current plan is to bring a 2012 Dark Lord, a BCS Coffee, perhaps a Belgian Red from New Glarus, and maybe a can or two of something interesting from Tallgrass in Kansas (stopped in WI last week and picked up some non-Illinois stuff). The wife is planning on hitting Solemn Oath on Friday to pick up their best looking growler as well...

Was just given two tickets to this Sunday’s White Sox game vs. the A’s. I’m looking for a good beer guy (or gal) to tailgate with and then catch the game. Game starts at 1pm so I'm looking to get there early to set up, grill, and swill. I can drive from the suburbs. Short notice but let me know if you're interested.
