?

Could you pick every beer you've ever had from a list?

I think I can. I'm pretty confident I could be given a list of 1,000 beers and pick the 777 I've had to this point. Obviously I couldn't just list them all off the top of my head. I don't how many other people believe they could do this, hence the poll.

Oh, dear god no. I can't remember the cute, hop-pun name of some IPA I had last week, let alone the name of some beer I had in some random bar in the Adirondacks in 1977.

Proof is trying to recall how many of the top 250 or beers of fame I have had but haven't rated... there's some guessing going on.

I could remember every beer that I've reviewed, but not the thousands that I've sampled a beer festivals.

Given a list, I could probably tick thru it and say, "Yes and no." But I can't guarantee accuracy. That said, the number of beers in my BA list doesn't reflect the actual beers I've had throughout the years.

For every beer I've formally reviewed I would be able to, and can usually remember my overall impression; and sometimes even a few broad tasting notes.

I have a terrific memory and while I can still recite my old class roster that I heard every single day for years I am sure I cannot pick out every beer I have tried from a list.

I do this all of the time at the store- when face to face with a beer I can tell you whether or not I've had it, and probably give some sort of impression. But could I make a list from scratch? Not even close.

The important part, though, is to be able to look a tap list, cooler, shelf, or whatever, and be able to tell whether you'd want something again or go with something new. That part I have locked down.

Off the top of my head no way, but actually I think if there was a list I would be able to remember at least 90-95%. I would probably miss on the ones that I've only had small tasters of at fests, ones that I've bought though I'm pretty confident I'll remember.

Started drinking beer on a regular basis in around 1979, been to about 30 states and several European countries...a resounding NO!!!!

I bet I'd get pretty close if given a list, even more so if said list was grouped by brewery, as opposed to say alphabetical.

You have a couple of years on me, but I'm sure your memory could be jogged with the right sort of reminder, I'm sure. Just the other day I was looking at a Tuborg Gold bottle cap and got a sudden mental image of what the beer of Danish Kings was (sort of) like. It usually just comes on like a quick association, sometimes stuff I've otherwise forgotten about.

Yes. And if I go out with people I can tell them months later what everyone at the table had. Same with recipes.

I've had less than 100 beers total at this point, so yeah, I think I would be able to pick the ones I've had out of a list of a few hundred or a thousand or so that I haven't had (though there's a chance I'd miss one or two that I only had once a while back, or something along those lines.)

Ordering some random obscure craft beer I've never heard of, off a menu, one night at a bar 7 years ago, before I ever started writing down ratings, and I was already a few drinks in...that times a couple hundred...

So no, I probably can't name half.
