It feels like they're taking a shot at Greg Koch and Co. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Trust me, the existence of this beer is hurting Jim Koch's ego a lot more than Greg's.

regular rebel isn't anything too great, but I think rebel rouser is under rated. if its the only dipa available, I wont be grumbling too much. I will at least give this an honest chance.

Don't get that sense. But I do feel they are trying to capture the East Coast IPA craze by emphasizing that their beer's unfiltered and cloudy.

I'd try this just to see if I could get a decent version without trading for it.

You're probably not, but I'm on the other end of the fence. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I'll probably try this out of curiosity.

I'm not sure what to think there. I get what you're alluding to, but as someone I perceive as a businessman more than a brewer or beer-lover, I'd think the decision a no-brainer and one he could easily adapt to.

I'll give it a go, the other rebels are very middle-of-the-road for me but I won't turn down a beer which will probably be at least halfway decent and basically always readily available.

I didn't like Rebel, Rebel Rider, or Rebel Rouser... I don't think I'll be trying this one.

I feel their dislike of IPAs shows in the tastes of this series of beers. :slight_frown:

Greg's ego will always be intact. I love that guy. As for Jim, I see your point. Not the business model he planned to follow.

I didn't mind the other rebels, I might even say I liked them. I'll definitely be hunting for this one

The copy sounds like it is referencing Heady a bit. There is a touch of Stone feel in the copy, too, but I agree that NE DIPAs are the primary target. Which given BBC's location, seems logical.

Whether it is worth drinking, I'll wait for release to consider. I've not been WOW'd by an IPA from BBC/Sam Adams, but I am willing to give it a try.

This is purely a marketing/profit strategy. Sam Adams doesn't brew hoppy ales successfully, because Koch doesn't like hoppy ales to begin with. However, the market is demanding hoppy ales right now, so they have to meet that demand. I wouldn't expect this to be anything worthy of a repeat buy. SA's IPAs never have been, in my opinion.

I'll try with a skeptical open mind. BBC can't do hoppy beers. Now, if they finally have seen the writing on the wall and decided to brew an IPA in the tradition of their presumed location, I would be interested to see the results. But really, this has an 81 score written all over it...

Jim Koch: They like hazy beer now. Is this exploitable?

I felt that notion too. If it tastes like Gandhi Bot, I'd buy it on repeat.
