    Beer Release News
    August 14, 2015

We have several new beers headed your way as we wrap up summer and head towards fall. While we don’t have specific release dates set just yet, we want to share brief descriptions and offer general target dates. Stay tuned as we plan to share more information in the coming weeks.

Funky Pumpkin – Spiced Sour Ale
Slated for an early September release in six packs of 12 ounce bottles and on draft, Funky Pumpkin is our unique spin on a pumpkin beer. Spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice and ginger, the final beer is a blend of brewhouse soured beer and beer aged in a stainless steel tank with brettanomyces. Tart and slightly earthy, Funky Pumpkin features a subtle toffee/caramel malt character that allows pumpkin pie spices to shine.

Collaboration No. 5 – Tropical Pale Ale
Combining Cigar City Brewing’s expertise with tropical fruit flavors and Boulevard’s love of pale ales, Collaboration No. 5 – Tropical Pale Ale begins with a base of soft pilsner malt layered with Maris Otter, Munich and caramel malts. Huge late hopping with a blend of Mosaic, Citra, Lemondrop and Azacca lends bright flavors of mango, pear, blueberry and citrus to a pale ale featuring slightly toasted biscuit and caramel/toffee notes. Refreshing acidity and tropical fruit flavor are imparted by infusing the wort with freshly sliced grapefruit and passion fruit juice at the conclusion of the boil. At 7.3 ABV and 55 IBUs, Collaboration No. 5 – Tropical Pale Ale finishes slightly tart with bright citrus character from dry-hopping with Lemondrop, Azacca and Pacific Jade hops. We’re currently targeting a mid-late September release in four packs of 12 ounce bottles and 1/6 bbl kegs.

    Rye-on-Rye
One of our most coveted Smokestack Series Limited Release beers, Rye-on-Rye will once again be available in 750 ml bottles and 1/6 bbl kegs. The 2015 vintage is tentatively scheduled to become available in the latter half of September.

Imperial Stout X – Tart Cherry
As a base beer, Imperial Stout serves as a ridiculously sturdy starting point for layering flavors by incorporating new ingredients or barrel aging methods. Imperial Stout has a huge grain bill featuring several types of malted barley, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt. Robust grain and chocolate/coffee flavors are counterbalanced by date and plum notes from Scottish yeast. For Imperial Stout X – Tart Cherry, our brewers blended in over 24,000 pounds of cherry puree and 1,600 gallons of brewhouse soured beer to lend cherry flavor and a tart, refreshing acidity. Available exclusively in 750 ml bottles, Imperial Stout X – Tart Cherry is currently scheduled for a release near the end of September.

    Smokestack Series Great 8
For the first time ever, we’re bottling Imperial Stout in 12 ounce bottles in addition to 750 ml bottles and 1/6 bbl kegs. The 12 ounce bottles will be available exclusively in a new Smokestack Series sample pack also featuring 2 bottles each of Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, The Calling and Tell-Tale Tart. We haven’t confirmed an official launch date, but the Smokestack Series Great Eight will be available throughout our distribution network starting in early October.

    Deep Dive – Wet-Hopped Ale
Brewed to coincide with the harvest of Centennial hops, Deep Dive will be a Smokestack Series Limited Release beer available exclusively on draft. We’re currently finalizing the recipe composed of our base pale malt with wet, whole cone Chinook hops added to the wort kettle.

As we get closer to launching each beer, we’ll announce official release dates. Please note that the target dates mentioned are subject to change.

Boulevard has been one of my favorites this year as they finally started distributing to Ohio. Sounds like this will continue. Can't wait for Collaboration 5, Rye on Rye and Deep Dive.

Collab 5 and Funky Pumpkin sound awesome. Boulevard is my go-to story when people get bent out of shape over breweries "selling out". I haven't noticed much change, if any, after the Duvel purchase outside of wider distribution.

These guys are doing it right.

Unfortunately, my experience has been the opposite. I'm a Kansas City native, and Boulevard is/was my favorite brewery. But since they opened up to the NY market, DC-area distribution has fallen off a cliff. I had been talking them up in beer circles around here, but it's hard for me to keep the love going when we don't see most of their limited releases.

From what I see on BA, it's way more acceptable to "sell out" to Duvel than it is A-B. I'm looking forward to the Great 8, with 2 each of 4 different smokestack series beers. I pay $9.99 - $10.99 a 4 pack for the Smokestack series beers, so I'm guessing the Great 8 will come in around $20. Collab 5 and Deep Dive both sound pretty good, hopefully I'll see them around here. I can get most Boulevard releases here, but not all. I can get Rye-on-Rye and the Imp Stout X series, but they are a little pricey for the bottle you get. Never been a pumpkin beer fan, but if I see Funky Pumpkin on tap I will give it a try.

Well, I quite liked Almanac's Dark Pumpkin Sour, so I'm quite hopeful for the Funky Pumpkin.

I don't deal directly with distributors, but it's worth noting that we brew to order based on amounts requested by our distributors. We brew what each distributor requests so it's not that we're diverting beer from the DC area to NYC.

Appreciate the news, especially since I had to unfollow Blvd on Twitter since they only seem to Tweet about the Royals. Ugh!

Funky Pumpkin - Not really feeling this one. I like pumpkin beers, but not when they're not a Brown Ale, Porter or Stout.
    Collaboration No. 5 - Yes.
    Rye-on-Rye - YES!
Imperial Stout X Tart Cherry - OH. HELL. YES!
Smokestack Series Great 8 - I'm kind of underwhelmed by this one. With a name like that I would expect 1 bottle of 8 different Smokestack series beers in the pack, not 2 bottles of 3 different beers unless they're going to do this as a seasonal pack and rotate what goes in it.
Deep Dive - I'll pass because I've never been a big fan of wet-hopped beers, even if it is part of the Smokestack Series.
