Yeah, I think "Seidel" is just another word for a straight-sided glass (but I defer to the Deutsch-speakers).

    And no lemon? :grinning:

For what it's worth, I drank Weizen at a few different Festivals and always got the traditional half liter glass. Yes, Ami friends, I said glass.

Anyone tried the Von Freude beers?
I tried the Just Pils recently and found it to be a nice, hoppier pilsner, reminiscent of Victory Prima Pils.

This is the first time I heard of von Freude. I went to their website and read their ‘mission statement’ (copied below).

I particularly liked the part of: “We create recipes and design Craft Beers with a soul.”

It seems that the German craft beer movement is very, very similar to the US craft beer movement.

    Cheers!

“von Freude‚s Concept of Craft Beer.

When we found that something had been lost to industrialised Beer we started making our own Craft Beer. This is when we founded the von Freude Microbrewery . von Freude stands for the Making of Modern Craft Beers with the techniques of endurable Craftsmanship. We – by the way – are Natalie and Martin. Find pictures of us scrolling further down this page.

While industrialised Beers taste largely all the same, are lacking character and are being sold in a continued race to the bottom, we make a difference. We create recipes and design Craft Beers with a soul. We see ourselves as architects of Beer. We do not own production facilities as yet. We practice the lifestyle of Gypsy Brewers. We collaborate with other brewers to produce our recipes or experimental one-off brews. We rent their facilties and craft our Beers on their equipment.

Naturally, we do not use PVPP for filtering. Nor do we employ the features of artificial Beer Coloring in our processes. Nearly all large scale breweries use such artifice. We do it differently – and all natural. When we want a darker Ale, we use a darker Malt. As easy as that.”

I had their pale ale and IPA. Nothing that stands out from the crowd of craft startups, boring:wink:

My reason for commenting on the "glass" is that you rarely see proper glassware at festivals of fairs over here in the 'States. We can't be trusted not to litter the ground with broken glass after drunken revelry.

ipa was ok, better than many here, but not great. They have another beer, ale primeur, which I thought was horrible, however the just pils I bought again, I think it is quite solid. A nice mix between a pils and a pale ale.

Reason number 978 why the NERAX (New England Real Ale Exhibition) festivals are my favorite. Aside from the fact it's a relaxed pub atmosphere (beer geeks don't give a shit about 3.5% milds), they also give you imperial pint glasses to use at the fest, and to take home. Last few years have been Willi Bechers which I love, previous years were nonic pint glasses (I like those too).

I guess I am failing over and over at being a beer geek because I love real ales, love abv beers, lagers... I guess I do like lambics and wild ales too, those seem to be kinda trendy:wink:

Of course, I have seen some pretty epic carnage (both glassware and revelers) at the Oktoberfest -- and a shattered Maß with the handle still attached is a pretty ugly looking weapon! :grimacing:
