Heading to Vermont this coming Monday and staying at Stowe Cabins near Waterbury. What are the can't miss beer bars or brewpubs and where is the most likely place to purchase cases of Heady Topper in that area.
If you're willing to plan and make the trip up there, how are you too lazy to just do a quick internet search. It's not as if you're heading into uncharted waters. Not trying to pick on you specifically, just don't understand how these threads seem to pop up almost daily.
I happen to be a very busy person so excuse me if I'm using this bulletin board for it's intended use. I have never been on the New England portion of this before, so sorry. I will be there five days. Thanks for any useful responses.
I feel like with these posts and the ones looking for Heady the posters end up putting in more work than if they had just googled it. I mean, I'm pretty sure heady spotter is like the first or second result...
Your best bet is to be at Hunger Mountain Cop-Op in Montpelier at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday. You will get a number when you arrive. They'll line you up according to number and they'll start bringing you in a few at a time. You can buy one case of HT per person. $75+ tax (total will be somewhere around $80.50). http://hungermountain.coop/AtTheCoop/Beer.aspx
Prohibition Pig, Blackback Pub, and Reservoir must visit bars in Waterbury. Get to Hunger Mountain Co Op around 7 am on Thurs morning, cases of Heady for sale starting at 8:00 (there will probably be people already in line at 7:00). See Alchemist Beer site for where to buy, cases only offered at limited spots.
I went up last year and went to Winooski Beverage right outside of Burlington. They get case deliveries Tues/Thurs. If you get there about an hour before they open, you can pretty much guarantee yourself a case. They were very efficient with their sales and had the line in great order. They also have a huge selection of other stuff you won't find in PA. I highly recommend Farmhouse Tap & Grill in Burlington. Excellent food and Hill Farmstead/Lawson's/amazing beers on tap.
Plan a visit up to Hill Farmstead if you have time (open Weds - Sat, noon to 5 pm). About an hour drive from Waterbury, follow directions from HF website, I had GPS but HF directions are much better, especially the last couple miles off Taylor Rd. There are also a few breweries you can hit on your way up to or back from HF (Lost Nation, Rock Art, Crop Bistro, Von Trapp). I really enjoyed the Rock Art Notch Hopper and Limited Access.
Would still love to see a sticky thread with all the usual spots and basic FAQs that we seem to see everyday. Either way it's beautiful up in that part of Vermont this time of year.
does anyone know the route the truck takes in Stowe on Friday's? Will have a wife and baby with me. Just wanting to stop a few places early for a few 4-packs of Heady and would prefer to do it in the AM. Will I have luck at Sunflower if is how up around 8? what is the process there?
In July when I was there on a Friday they hit the top of the mountain road first (edelweiss deli) and moved towards downtown Stowe. Started around 9, and was able to hit 5 different stores on the mt road. Not sure what time the drop at sunflower happened, but by the time I got there it was gone.
