Do you circumvent bottle limits?

?

Do you have a method allowing you to circumvent bottle limits (whether you choose to use it or not)?

It seems like almost every day, I come across a post somewhere, like the Hauls thread, that is just ludicrous in terms of limited release beer. This can be said for everything from the most national of special releases, like BCBS/KBS hauls of cases when the limit is 1 bottle in Michigan. It also happens with highly limited brewery release only stuff occasionally.

I've often wondered what percentage of the beer fanatic community uses some special circumstance allowing them to land quantity of a limited beer.

I, like most I'm sure, constantly accept my 1-bottle limit fate. As much as I hate it, I accept it, but I know a few folks are able to skirt it. How many of you are there?

I sometimes get taken care of because I've worked in the industry - mostly going to said brewery often and get recognized - and get an extra bottle or two, which I still pay for.

Last West Ashley release that I barely got to, there were tons of, erm, seniors. Most of whom didn't appear to be buying West Ashely for themselves. Thought I'd need an AARP card to continue purchasing at SARA.

Just bring a few people with you, and have them go in and buy it person by person.

If the store has set a limit, it's because they have determined that it's the best method they have at their disposal to get that beer to as many people who want it. Circumventing it is a real dick move, and is essentially taking bottles away from someone else.

Whenever I see a bottle limit I'm thankful because it was instrumental in giving me that chance to get something.

No, I don't. But I would take the crazy posts you see on the hauls thread with a grain of salt. I've heard that in some cases, those hauls are several beer friends taking a picture of all of their bottles combined for the wow factor.

I agree with @TongoRad and just live. My life is not any worse without 7 bottles of a beer. Be cool.

Yeah, some are like that. It's like when people rent high-end cars to have in their garage for when they're on Cribs.

For the most part I abide by the bottle limits at any nearby bottle shops. I will how ever bring my significant other with me to some brewery releases in order to obtain a larger quanity if it is a beer that I like.

I have only done this maybe once or twice, but I will wait until new staff goes on shift and go back to the store and get another allotment.

Beer is meant for sharing. I happily abide by the store rules.

So far I have been fortunate enough not to come across such limits.

I work at a liquor store and everything "Special Release" i order i can get as much as id like though id never do that. We'll usually limit 1 per person unless your one of the regulars who spend absurd amounts on beer which is what in turn helps us get those special releases.

The way to get around limits is to know that particular brewery or bottle shop. Befriend a contact and hook them up with other beers so when a limited release comes around they could care less that they sell you a case. Heck some places prefer it. Less hassle with public.

I had one connection that would hook me up with as much as I want and even let me know of the more limited stuff that wasn't sold the "public". That contact has since gone and I stick to limits. I don't really mind these days because I rarely buy multiples of special beers or even one lately.

Be a regular at the place you shop. With social media I can easily get new beer a day of two earlier but choose to wait it out till it hits the local shop.

Trying to get two of something when you're told you can only have one is to a large extent human nature. I can also see how the other side gets pissed at people walking out with a case just before they get told it's sold out. Personally, if I can't get a 6er of something on my way home from work whenever I want, I don't bother with it.

This thread is full of reasons exactly why there are bottle limits. I support them wholeheartedly as long as it is for a truly limited, yearly release.

Depends on the beer. If it's something like Firestone Walker Sucaba, I stick to the normal limits because the store manager won't let us buy more. However, we're allowed to get a full six/four pack if the release comes in that size.

Yes (other). Bring my friends who don't appreciate beer as much, and they buy one for me as a favor, and I buy it right back from them. If they are good friends, they will do this for free.

This. I agree that people who buy more than their allotment are basically stealing beer from other beer geeks. And people who steal beer are the scum of the beer community. Be respectful and enjoy the one you got.

I'm gonna go with yes (other)

I work in beer sales and I go to about 50 stores a week

But, only 5 or so of them are very good craft stores that get very limited stuff. So if its something I love, I am able to get a good chunk of it, but i never go over the bottle limits at each store. I also pay full price for them, unless the store really insists on giving me a discount haha
