Okay, I have no idea what it's worth (I am aware of how rare it is), and I have no intention of trading it, but judging it's value is almost impossible now that E-Bay auctions are toast (never condoned those but it was a useful metric from time to time).

So, in order to get a feel for how it ranks in my cellar, if I were to offer it up for trade, what would you be willing to offer in return? Again, not willing to trade this, just looking for a benchmark for this beer.

    Prost,

    Duke

No idea what else is in your cellar, but a HotD fan would likely offer up a lot to get a shot at it. It's not as rare as Dave, Adambier Batch 1, or the original Adam FTW, but it's right up there.

Not that this should be used as an indication of the value, what-so-ever.

HOTD Brewery sells Adam Batch 1 for onsite consumption only. I think they charge $120 dollars a bottle.

I've only been building my collection for a few years so my oldest bottles would be some first year Deschutes Abyss.

Thanks, that gives me a good idea.

Batch 1 of Adam is ~$75 at the pub, Fred < Adam, so something less than 75.

Should be tasty though. Let us know how it has held up.

Wow Really? If it was 75, I would have had one! (I opted for Adam FTW batch 2).

I thought so. In any case, I'd rather have like 4 bottles of Adam ftW than 1 of Batch 1 Adam. It's probably oxidized to hell, no?

Yes most likely but I'm a ticker

I've had 2 bottles and while there is some oxidation going on, it certainly didn't take away from the beer.

    Interesting.

I think Arbitrator posted the results of a long vertical of Adams going back to late '90s, and that led me to significantly revise downward my expectations for how long Adam would cellar.

My palate is significantly different than Arbitrators palate, is I would guess is true for most. There's also the factor of storage when dealing with an aged beer. Getting a bottle from HOTD would come with the assumption of the best storage conditions, while it is questionable when you trade for older beers from BA or elsewhere.

The fact that this was posted here instead of the cellar forum earns this topic a #bragging

    Yep, here: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/adam-vertical-results.22175/

You're going to hate to hear this, but here goes. I was in the brewpub one day (I think early 2011?) and ran into Alan and asked him about aged bottles of Adam. He said he had none available besides what was on the menu (no Adam b1 at the time). Thirty minutes later, a guy walked in holding a case or two of beer, chatted with Alan, gave him the beers. Alan walked over to me and said, "This is your lucky day." Turns out a guy who used to volunteer for HotD back in the day was leaving town and was giving or selling Alan his stash of old Adams and similar beers. Alan offered me batch 26 Adam for $25 and batch 1 for $75. I bought the former, passed on the latter. ramnuts can vouch for this.

That batch 26 bottle is the one I reviewed in the thread above: well past its prime. My guess is that those bottles were all stored in that guy's garage or something. HotD put Adam batch 1 on the menu after that day; my further guess is that those are all the same bottles from the same guy.

I have no high hopes for those bottles being stored optimally just because they are sold at the pub. If you're enjoying those bottles, I'll certainly concede that our palates are different. But as mentioned in the thread above, Sean9689 found Adam batch 8 past its prime, and I recall missing out on a trade for Adam batch 9 that the "winner" later admitted was awful. So I'm inclined to believe age beats even storage factors at that point.

Apparently I have a palate for oxidized beers. Time to start collecting my Adams now so I can drink them in 20 years :grinning:. Can I say I had the Batch 1 Adam almost 2 years ago and say my palate may have changed :grimacing: ?

Anyway, I recall that story from Ramnuts. I was hoping that Alan had other bottles of Batch 1 but maybe not.

Thank you for corroborating that story. No one believed me when I told them.

And my take on the Adam Batch #1 I had last year, to repeat, was: Soy sauce, cardboard, and the tears of babies. Awful, oxidized mess.

Batch 1 Fred is really good. Had one a couple months ago at the Deschutes/Hair of the Dog Collaboration dinner.
