Heh, I was there too. When I first had DDBA, it was on nitro at the brewery and it was damn near perfect. At O’brien’s it was maybe a bit hot, but I still liked it quite a lot. No regrets about the bottles that I already bought, and still looking for more.

Just found three cases at my local Blossom Hill Bevmo. Also Bobby's Liquors in Santa Clara got some in too.

Haven't looked for it in bottles yet, but I had it on tap at City Beer on Saturday. It's a decent beer that drinks like a pretty rich barleywine. Doesn't really compare to some of the more complex or fruitier barleywines I like to get, but it's a decent option.

Also agree it is not on the same level as Abacus, but it's still pretty good.

came back from traveling and saw this all over the place in AZ
dba is a favorite of mine (and also of the lady of the house)for those rare moments when i don't want a flavor bomb or high abv sipper or palate wrecker etc...so knowing they made an "imperial" version got the blood a flowin...i hope i can pay my bills....Sigh.... the data from the last few years sure makes it looks like the short repreive to my wallet and liver afforded by the less than insane big beer releases of the summer appears to have a larger (negative) first time derivative than i might have hoped....

Had this on tap at BT's BBQ in Huntington Beach California, man talk about feeling the booze on it, at 12% ABV it has a bit of scotch taste to it up front. The bitter barleywine kicks in and mellows it out a bit. Pretty good beer, best enjoyed in small doses.

I was just about to ask about this beer!

My retailer calls me aside and says, "I got something in, and I only got 2 bottles..."
I didn't know what I was in for. He tells me it's an Imperial bitter that's bourbon barrel-aged. Of course I have to try it, never having had any such thing.
On the BA site, it's classified as an American Strong Ale (I always think of Double Bastard and its kin), but I would've assumed it would be like a strong English bitter. Now I'm reading it's like a barleywine? I'm pretty pumped.

BTW, $22.99 bottle on Long Island, NY.

I can't believe they hung around in STL that long? You guys still have 'em on the shelves? Thankfully, we got a couple of cases here in Mid-Mo!
