Heady Hangovers?

    Like most beer geeks in Vermont I'm stoked to have regular access to Heady Topper (and other great brews). However, I've noticed that the hangover the next day is exponentially worse than with other beers with similar ABVs. Is this complete psychosomatic hogwash on my part, or is there something intrinsically more hangover-inducing in the Heady?

    ps - I'm not talking about chugging a four pack. Two of them is a recipe for a skull-splitter.

    I feel like this is a case simply of 2 - 8% 16 oz beers being consumed rather quickly without much water in between, recipe for headaches.

    Sounds like a problem a good old fashioned science experiment should be able to sort out. I'll do the research (drinking) and let you know :wink:

    In all seriousness, I haven't noticed any significant difference in Heady Hangovers vs. other beer. Now, a wine hangover? That's the worst haha

    It's unfiltered. I don't know the exact science (and this could be a coincidence not a result) but I've def felt worse the next day after drinking a few super hazy/dank unfiltered beers.

    You call yourself a beer geek and you can't even drink 32oz of 8% beer without getting all hung over? Have a big glass of water in between beers?

    Actually, an unfiltered beer should contribute less to a hangover because of the vitamin B from the yeast still in suspension. However, let's not kid ourselves......alcohol is a poison to our bodies. Unfiltered or not, too much is gonna hurt.

    What's funny is that I have the exact opposite experience with Heady: no matter how many I drink, I never feel hungover the next day. I've kept that to myself because it sounds crazy, but I swear it's the only beer that has this (non) effect.

    I can attest that I also suffer from a headache (no other "hangover" symptoms) after an evening of consuming Heady. I do not know why this is not the case when I drink the same quantity of DIPAs of similar ABV. With all that being said, the beer is worth the pain.

    It's the hops, too much. I get the same result from homebrewing a Pliny the elder clone. Instant headache. The only way around it for me is to drink an equal amount of water.

    Never had this issue. It does make me a little horny -- but never a bad hangover.....
