    Thoughts on this beer?

With today being IPA day, I finished my evening off with a 2yr old 120. Each time I have one of these I find myself liking them less and less. Seems very syrupy and overly sweet.

How is this on draft compared to bottle?

I had it once, and that was on draft. I liked it and really want to try it bottled. Although when I had it, it was very cold, I can imagine if I let it warm up some of the boozyness might come through. And I'm not the biggest fan of boozy ipa's. But thick, and syrupy, I can also agree with that. I just think for an 18% beer, it seems like they do a great job at hiding it.

I've only had one, fresh last year. I actually didn't particularly care for it either. Way to boozy and cloyingly sweet. Still have a few in the cellar I'll get to eventually.

I've had it on tap at the DFH Brewpub and loved it and had it in the bottle a couple of times and did not care for it. I am aging the rest I have hoping for the best. It's a love or hate beer as nobody says 120 is just ok. It's classified as an IPA but it's more of a barley wine or Strong Ale IMO.

I had a one year bottle this summer (my first). It was like drinking syrup. thats it. I liked how WWS and Raison DExtra had some backing flavors to cut the sweetness. 120 Min was definitely the weak leak in those 3.

I find it to be "okay" actually. It's a bit sweet, not hoppy enough, and gets boozy and cloyingly sweet halfway through the bottle.

It's closer to a barleywine I think.. Not awesome, but not bad. It's fun to have from time to time.

I bought a couple bottles in 07. I opened one fresh, took a few sips and I thought it was horrible and it was my first ever drain pour. Nothing but syrup and sugar, no hops whatsoever. I can count on one hand beers I have drain poured, so that says something right there. I still have that other 07 bottle but am afraid to open it.

Had it for the first time tonight. Split a 12oz bottle between three of us so I really enjoyed it. I would want more than 4 ozs though.

I had a six-year old bottle a few weeks ago and it was fantastic! Totally turned into a different kind of monster.

I did not realize my post would generate interest like this. To put it a different way, I do plan on opening it, but am just afraid of what it will be like.

I figured you weren't really looking to get rid of it. I have suffered through plenty of beers as I have never drained poured a beer and I can't say that I ever will. It would take something pretty wretched for me to waste a beer. At any rate I have had 120 on tap numerous times and in bottles just a few. It always seems better on tap but I will see as I have (4) 2011 and (4) 2012 bottles left.

I enjoy 120 and kudos to you for following your "buds" and ignoring the bottle price, that's one expensive drain pour. :grinning:

I have a couple in my stash but agree that it's more syrupy than hoppy. It's ok but I wouldn't break the bank over it.

Amazing the many of you taste syrupy! I suppose my palate is wrecked! I love 120 min without a doubt!

Tried both on tap and in the bottle. I must say I preferred the on tap. I got a bottle as a present and I'm saving it for when the wife only lets me have one beer.
