Introduced my young adult son to better beer. He is a recent college grad accustomed to drinking mass quantities of Auggies finest. He is now requesting and suggesting beers that make this old Hophead proud.

That's awesome. I drink beer but my old man doesn't like beer that much. He loved Rochefort 10 so I guess that's "Our" beer. Cherish this moment.

i'm only 22 but my parents are older than my friend's parents, they don't "get" craft beer especially anything remotely bitter. wine drinker and non-drinker so i'm forging my own path in the way of the beer.

congrats! maybe one day i'll get to share my love of the brew

I'm on the other side of this fence.

My father was always a " Becks is the best beer in the world because it is German and by default German beer is better beer because it's from Germany ".

He changed his tune pretty quickly after bringing him a few Rocheforts. And now, there isn't a Belgian nor an IPA/DIPA he doesn't enjoy. I simply couldn't watch my old man drink skunk excrement for the rest of his life :astonished:

Hopefully in about 5 years I will be getting to enjoy this aspect of life. Well unless my oldest gets married sooner then I may be teaching a son in law.

By the time my son is 21 I'm sure he will be talking to me about craft marijuana.

Don't prematurely push him to "good" beer.

I drank High Life well into my mid twenties before burning out and looking for something better (Pete's Wicked Ale at the time). I appreciated it so much more after being saturated with BMC.

I still fondly remember Pete's....sad that it isn't around anymore

make sure you don't have too much good shit in your cellar, if you do, stay away from the top of the staircase when he is around

Same situation here. I turned my old man on to the world of craft. He still talks about how all he used to drink was Heineken back in his day.

Congrats. You may have just unknowingly caused him to spend thousands of dollars on a product that he will eventually just piss into a toilet, when he could have saved that money for retirement. Reckless.

Congrats man! Instant drinking partner. Agreed on what @TrojanRB said. Giving him a shelf beer by SN, Lagunita's, Stone, etc. is a step up probably from the Beast, Natty Light, etc. he has been drinking. Let him grab some mixed 6's to experiment.

I've got about 8 years until my son hits college and even longer to he graduates. A bit sooner for my daughter, but I don't see her liking beer/drinking much. Hopefully planting the seed now of enjoying great beers.

Wow, if that's your take on beer, what's your advice on marriage and having kids? They are far more expensive than my beer hobby.
