That's fair. But there's no way to please everyone. When in doubt, err on the side of the home team.

except for that pesky fact that without the immediately local population around the brewery, said brewery would never have been able to start distributing to other areas/states? there's a reason why practically every brewery out there feels differently than you do

Sure, but in the same sentence you could add that without the out of town support, the brewery would never have been able to sustain growth and distribution to other areas. I totally understand that local support is important, but I'm just saying that if a brewery wants to be more than local, out of town support is just as important. Its not like these out of towners are pesky freeloaders coming to drink up all Charleston's rightful Mexican Cake (and I'm not implying that siege06nd was saying that, but I do see that attitude a lot).

I doubt the out of towners buy cases of Mexican Cake, Anniversary and every other good bottle release as well as full allotments every time they have special releases...they also don't drink cases of gose and one claw on the boat every summer or order their IPA fresh every where they go. Locals spend a lot more money on Westbrook than out of towners because it is more readily available...I could take a guess at how much money I spend there every year, and I guarantee it's at least quadruple what anyone outside of the Charleston area spends, but I won't put it on this message board in case my wife ever sees it!

I would buy a case of Mexican Cake if I'd ever seen one. I would also buy a single bottle of it, but unfortunately haven't seen one of those either.

So, y'all already have the privilege of living in Charleston, and you want ALL the good beer on top of it.

But seriously, I cannot wait to retire and move to Charleston. I love that town.

We have a couple really good breweries and many on the way....but as far as limited release stuff, we have the BA Cakes...that's it! But I am not complaining!

I think Westbrook is brilliant. People know BA Cakes could drop any day so people keep going by the brewery, day after day. BA Cakes didn't drop? OK, give me some draft pours. Not an empty trip, after all. Then Westy starts tapping really limited variants of BA Cakes but always run out in 30-45 minutes. So now even more people come, day after day; still hoping for bottle releases but now also hoping for limited taps. Kick already kicked? OK, gimme an IPA. Not an empty trip after all.

And day after day this repeats. I bet Westbrook has seen at least 50% more traffic in their taproom in the past 3 weeks than normal. Brilliant, I say.

Yeah if Westbrook didn't have the locals hyping the shit out of every release then there wouldn't be such a high demand for Mexican Cake. I feel like the way Westbrook is going about their releases lately is just turning people off of their beer that don't live in the Charleston area. How many "locals" are just going to be posting their beers for trade right after the release instead of drinking them?

I'm sure it will be the same amount that do it for the Cycle releases

Prob a bunch bc this yr, unlike every other ba cake release, we've gotten multiple times to drink them as opposed to just the day of if you are lucky...

50% more traffic, I am thinking 90% more traffic. I typically hit Westbrook on Tuesdays. There are maybe 5-10 people on average. When I showed up this past Tuesday, there had to be 40 people in the taproom. I was confused as to what the hell was going on until I checked the tvs.

Heard they might just go to on site consumption only. No more bottle releases to go.

Yeah CCB did that with Cali Brandy Huna. They released at random, but only a few cases, sometimes just 1 case, so people would come back everyday. Very smart on their part!
