I love getting flights when visiting a brewery for the first time. Sure, sometimes this can lead to be underwhelmed by a few offerings but I still enjoy trying new stuff.

When I visit a new brew pub for the first time I usually order a flight in order to sample enough of their brew to get a feel for their style and recipes. There's nothing more frustrating than eyeballing the board, picking something out that sounds like it'd be in your wheelhouse, ordering a pint and then wishing you hadn't. I don't feel obligated to polish off all of every brew in the flight if one or 2 don't suit me. Then I go ahead and order away some of what tasted good in the flight. Now breweries, well that's a whole different situation. Many offer samples before you buy once you've done the tour, especially if there's a fee. Or at least they offer a good pop in the tasting room at no fee, assuming you're going to buy either a growler or a 6er or even a case, mixed or otherwise.

If it's a new place - I will get a flight to determine what to order a pint of, or what to get a growler of.

Flights are for wimps, and an excuse to not drink out of a pint glass.

    This for sure.
I am not paying good money to choke something down I don't enjoy and a flight takes care of that nicely.
If a place does not have enough beers of MY choosing to make a flight, then I will ask for a taste of something that sounds up my alley, but if they have enough beers I would like to try I almost always get a flight.
And I don't understand the whole don't order flights because it's too hard for the servers mindset. Isn't that their job?

I'd prefer not to, but because I'm a small guy and 1-2 beers puts me over the edge, I prefer flights so I can attempt to enjoy more than one type / beer.

It's an unfortunate genetic punishment, I suppose...

I love me a flight but if the brewery is busy I'll just pick n choose pints

guess I am genetically gifted tall and round so I can handle a good session xD

If you've been to Russian River and still said no, you're doing it wrong.

I remember going to a bar and they had Pretty Things Jack D'Or, Firestone Walker Opal, Boulevard Tank 7, and Blaugies La Moneuse on tap. As far as I'm concerned, that's an opportunity. (I had all of these by the bottle at home before.)

^ This! IMO, this is the way to go, though no one method is the "correct" method. Do what you want, and enjoy the beer!

I've had one flight when I really couldn't make up my mind. It seems to me that tasting 3 or 4 beers in short succession does not yield the true taste, etc. of any of the beers, even with a gulp of water in between. Truer still when the majority of the beers in the flight are IPAs.

I normally get a flight if I've never been to the brewery before or if they've got a bunch of new options I haven't had.

I don't do flights because I am a bartender. Nothing annoys me more than flights!! It's just a beer. Make a commitment and stuck with it.

For that reason I always tip generously for a flight.

No, sir. The Hunter® does not do "flights" of any variation. Drinking an entire IPA helps me stay "grounded." Cheers.

It depends. Sometimes at a new brewery I want a flight; sometimes I'm happy with just a pint. It's all good.
