I do have a preoccupation with buying good beers and even maintain a cellar. I also like to go out to eat at restaurants that serve quality beer and not BMC swill. When I go out of town I like to check out the local flavor by stopping in to breweries. As a result my wife deems me an alcoholic, even though I do not touch a drop Tuesday-Friday because of work. In fact, I rarely consume more than 1 or 2 beers when we go out and never drink heavily, even on my usual beer day which is Saturday, but that is not always a given due to other things going on. Today in fact I have been rather busy so I just opened my first one, and may not even get to 1 or 2 more before bed. I have even been known to go for extended periods without drinking at all as in the entire month of July as my beer habits tend to add weight so I dropped 20 lbs by not drinking and watching my diet. I do not know many alcoholics who can quit cold turkey. So no, I do not think you have a problem in any way, shape, or form.

Funnily I was in for an annual physical at the VA & I was truthful with my drinking amounts on the questionnaire. Later we got down to talking about aches & pains & I mentioned my big toe hurting all the time. That's all the doc needed; on the spot she decided I had Gout. Later on I realized that was the toe I broke when I was 19 ( weight lifting stupidity ). It is in my medical records. She prescribes me the meds & I'm scratching my head. A few days later my blood work comes back normal as I told her it would. You can best believe I reminded her of that snap diagnosis. She didn't even take a close look at my toe. Still get the lecture every year from her, my point; a little closer examination of the patient might be in order.

"But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice." - Deuteronomy 14:24-26

That sure sounds to me like an OK from the big guy... as long as you let him choose the bar.

I always thought it was pretty pathetic that people needed some imaginary Being and a book with made up rules to tell them if they were acting like a piece of shit.

From my experience, I haven't met anyone that only has two or three beers on the weekends and needs a dedicated beer fridge.

You are either not being honest here, or the people you know are total jerks. You sound like the average social drinker.

I could relate. Sometimes i really want a beer. even wish i can have one at work during lunch but. I have no desperation for it. I do not enjoy the feeling of being drunk. Tryin hard to not throw up sucks. I like to homebrew. My mother in law thinks im becoming an alcoholic. Yea when i cant drink i get a little sad. I used to drink 5 beers a night. So i guess understandable but i just enjoy beer so much i cant help myself in a good way but tp stock up and spend mass money. Imo ill be an alcoholic wen idc wat i put in my body as long as it gets me drunk. And i do get drunk. But im functional and my hands never shake so i believe im good as long as i dont start mwssing up my life because of it .i couldnt give you advice im.no doctor. But thats my opinion of myself take from it wat you will

I think you have a hobby that is beer, of course people who don't get it think you like booze too much they don't understand it, that being said you should always be careful, but people who like comics are often called nerds, and while in a lot of ways this is different, in a lot of ways it's also not, be careful, but loving beer and loving beer culture are not necessarily alcoholism, I would say the less you care about what you drink the more you should worry

It comes down to wanting to drink vs needing to drink.

A serious question for everyone on here. Has anyone on this site ever known someone who was an alcoholic who never drank any alcohol other than beer?

Unless your friends are all Mormons, then I would be concerned if they are concerned about your drinking.
